Dash Wiring Harness Replacement, Now No Crank, No Power

Postby HDPropertiesMI [OP] » Dec 27 2015, 9:06pm

Hello Everyone,

I had an issue with the wiring harness that goes from the fuse box under the hood and in thru the firewall, it got wet, hot and burned about half the wires. I found an exact replacement out of an 01 Silverado. I removed the old one, every connection was the same. I replaced with the new one, connected everything properly, the way it came out.

I hooked the batteries back up. Turned the key, no go. with key forward, I can roll down the drivers window, cargo lights and int light comes on. Security light flashes, stays solid or just doesnt come on at all. Did the relearn process 5 times with the key, a total of 2 and a half hours wasted. I have no door lock power, nothing else.

I am stumped. This is the first time I have ever had to make a post about anything. I can usually figure it out. Would it be becasue of the after market auto start/alarm? Do I need to put that useless thing back in? Am I missing a ground somewhere? Ive put everything back the way it was in the last one. I really have no idea what to do next. This ia a plow truck and its supposed to snow tomorrow! I need help asap!

Got truck started, everything worked. Turned it off and on about 10 times, now it wont crank, however, the lights are all still on. When I turn the key, I can hear the solenoids click, but it doesnt drop voltage and the starter doesnt kick in. Trying to figure that out now....

The problem was the fuse box inside wasnt setting properly, took it out and replaced it, everything worked.

Dude you fixed your own problem. That picture at the beginning really scared me to see the dash tore apart like that. I have to admire you for your abilities and perseverance in getting it all working. Glad you got it solved and it wasn't a "nightmare" after all.

hopefully the starter issue is simple too, waiting out this impending freezing rain here in MI before I get back out there to work on it.

Oh, I thought you solved that with the fuse box issue. If not, make sure all the battery cables and grounds are in good shape and connected well.

Try whacking starter with something hard like a wrench or a hammer.
