Horn problems

2016 silverado 2500hd low horn works intermittently

Horn problems

Postby RAF [OP] » May 08 2019, 6:45am

I have a 2016 Silverado 2500hd. the high horn always sounds but the low horn sometimes does not. it seems like it works more often when I am on the freeway although this could be a coincidence. the problem is the same with the steering wheel or using my remote lock/unlock. there is only a single fuse related to the horn under the hood that is good but I can not find any other fuses or relays. I am assuming the low horn is going bad. is there anything else I can check before I have to take the grill and bumper off to get to the horn? Thanks.

If it is not the horn itself...could be the wiring. Need to check out the wires to that horn and look for corrosion and or bad contact.

I had that problem on my '00 Silverado. I found the horn bell was facing straight up and the horn was full of water. I replaced the horn and faced in downward and never had the problem again.

Re: Horn problems

Update: got the old horn out and noticed inside the conncector was corroded. I cleaned the connector out with a paper clip as best I could and the low horn would still not work. installed a new horn and it worked perfectly. I put some dielectric grease in the connector to hopefully fix the corrosion issue. So New Horn installed and problem solved. Thanks again for the help.

Don’t rule out the low note horn being bad. I have replaced mine twice.
