Exhaust leak

Exhaust leak

Postby 07SilveradoLT [OP] » Nov 21 2020, 5:12pm

I have a new body 07 with Texas speed 1 7/8 headers to Texas speed crossover, then i have a 3 inch magnaflow all the way back, my issue is, where the header meets the crossover it uses band clamps with a "bubble flare" in the middle, they both leak, they won't line up and seal for nothing! Any suggestions on a clamp fix before I cut all the ends off and add a vband flange, which I don't want to spend the time now that its cold in Michigan!

Sometimes with those bell flares, if you loosen the clamp and rotate it a little, then retighten, they will seal.

If it still doesn't want to seal, a temporary fix could be to lightly coat the flare inside with some exhasut sealant and then clamp it down. Kind of a hack way to do it, but it can work and could be effective.

Thanks, I'll give the rotation a try.

I have used red Permatex to seal headers before. Can you put a bead of Permatex at the joint and then tighten the clamp?

The copper permatex is the better choice for exhaust. Used it many times on stubborn leaks.

Have even used it on old Harley Shovel head motor exhaust, constant issues with leaks and dumping soot on the cylinders, that stuff worked every time.
