true dual long headers process

true dual long headers process

Postby 20silpope12 [OP] » Jun 21 2013, 6:25am

Im looking into installing a true dual crossover exhaust system and im considering getting some long tube headers as well. One thing i jave noticed browsing a few vendor sites (autoanything included) is that none of the exhaust systems or headers mention possible fit issues when changing one or both. I was hoping some of you might be willing to enlighten me on this. I do appreciate all the help to come!

All of our systems are going to be designed for stock header lengths (stock manifolds and shorty headers). If you are going to go long tube you will be best off putting your own system together, purchase your own mufflers and have an exhaust shop bend the tubing for you. Let me know what you decide and I would be more then happy to help however I can.

thanks for the reply. more than i have been able to find with google. also out of curiousity i have looked at alot of exhaust systems from flowmaster borla corsa etc and they all seem to be 1 in 2 out. are actual true dual crossover exhaust systems pretty much all custom? this is the first truck i have tried modding so i do appologize for all the questions.

No problem ask away! But you are correct, if you are going to go with a true dual system you are going to have to piece it together. As far as I know no one sells a "bolt in" true dual exhaust system, but I will do some research and double check. If I had to guess why no one has a true duel system it would have to be for legal reasons with the SMOG resource board; I know in California and many other states you can not pass smog with headers even if you put high flow cats on and they would have to advertise it as an "off Road" system. Plus I don't know how large the market is for true dual exhaust on a truck (not that it should discourage you at all, I would love to see a true dual exhaust system)

You can do this. True dual would mean just two seperate exhuast systems under your truck. If you wanted to get true duals and remain legal, you would need to buy 2 of everything. Like for example, if I wanted true dual flowmaster super 10, I would have to buy 2 single in, single out mufflers and connect them with piping. I then would need to buy the piping to wherever I wanted the ending to be, dumped, out the corners, straight, etc.. Muffler and exhaust shops will know exactly what you want, I'd suggest taking it to them and sorting it out.

I see you are in San Diego too! Unfortunately running long tubes will not pass smog even with catalytic converters...true me I tried! But if you don't mind switching your system out every two years then go for it! I can suggest a few shops in the area if you need.

O gotcha, Thank you for your service. You can get away with it in Texas, they are very strict here in California.
