2017 Sierra tailgate won’t open

It depends on the latch really. They would be designed to not be hackable in any easy manner obviously, but some covers don't have that design...like mine. It's just a soft roll up, and the end bar that holds that latch could likely be pried up and then yank on the cable to unlock each side. But I didn't buy mine for security...more to keep snow out of the back, and for any aero-dynamic improvement, which I'm not thinking is much at all anyway.

Still sucks you're in this spot....might have to decide which is more valuable or easier to replace...the cover, or the latch/handle piece..

When I had issues with mine
I went to Harbor Freight and bought a cheap set of plastic pry bars , and pry thr handle cover off and was able to open it.
And went to Auto parts store and bought a multi pack of universal metal pins and swap out both to avoid any further issues

Won't work on his truck. The bezel does not come off like ours and earlier trucks did.

Visualize the release leaver on the underside of the tonneau cover and think of a way to cut and bend a piece of metal banding strap or thick gauge tie wire to manipulate that handle or latch. Might be a PIA but better than hacking your cover up.

Might also try spraying some WD-40, PB Blaster or the likes on the latches on the side of the tailgate. Had this happen with my 18, it wasn't fully unlocking and had to unlock it several times to finally release it. Cleaned and sprayed the latches and it has not happened since. West Texas sand is very unforgiving. Clean and lubes once a month.
