Bent tail gate

Bent tail gate

Postby 2nd Hand Old Guy [OP] » Jun 14 2011, 3:50am

I have an older truck. The tail gate has a slight bend as if a load was there. Has anyone ever tried to straighten one? When it is closed the bend is down at the lower part. :?:

I am going to say go to a body shop or find a good one at a junkyark depending of the severity of the bend.

Yeh, it is a just barley, about 3/8" at most probably not enough to cry about.. But I wanted to seal that area.. HA then after I posted this one, found my seal won't stick to my spray one liner, just installed. :?
Any way may wait till it fills up with dirt?
Thank

Tailgates are not easy to straighten because of their sandwich construction of an inner and outer skin - I just lived with mine on the last truck.

They are usually more bent on the top edge (when tailgate is up) - if that's where yours is bent, you might be able to work some of it back with a couple of 2x4's and clamps, but then again, you might crease the outside and make it look worse.
If you want to do what you want to do, you have to do what you have to do.
