best way to straighten bent bumper

best way to straighten bent bumper

Postby SirMarty [OP] » Mar 04 2015, 5:19pm

I'm trying to find the best way to repair a bent part of my chrome front bumper. Its the piece between the fog light space and the tow hook space (see picture). I hit a snowbank and that part got bent in. Is this something easy to do ? Or do I have to worry about cracking it by trying to straighten it ?

How bad is it bent? I have a small dimple on my truck in a similar spot. It's a truck I don't really care.

But if you can get a small basketball or football back there you could try deflating it, then sticking it back there, then inflating it and it might pop it out

Chrome bumpers are not the easiest thing in the world to repair properly. Usually the repair looks worse than the original damage unless you are very careful and know what you are doing.

Check with the local body shops and used car lots in your area. There are mobile services that come around to a lot of these lots on a regular basis and repair metal bumpers and wheels on site. They might be able to tell you who is providing that service locally.

I can't even seen the dent, but I agree with the above. If you try to repair it, more than likely its going to be even more noticeable because if you bend it back more than likely the chrome will crack. The only real fix is to replace it and for small dent is it really worth it?

Something tells me the picture is a file photo and not the real bumper that is damaged.

Ya, sorry. It is a stock photo. I should of mentioned that its just to point out the part of the bumper. I'll post the real pic when I get a chance.

Here is the actual pic. Not a huge bend, but enough it irks me.
