My Plasti-Dip Project

Finally started the PD process

My Plasti-Dip Project

Postby Kanaloa [OP] » Jun 20 2013, 12:15am

I bought 2 cans of Plasti-Dip on Saturday. I was going to start on Sunday, but I laid my Harley down Saturday afternoon, so my hands weren't up to the task just yet. Feeling better today. I started with the chrome mirror caps and the front bowtie. I did 6 coats on the mirror caps and 8 coats on the bowtie. Here are some pictures of the process.

The mirrors turned out nice and smooth. The bowtie on the other hand...

Bowtie 1st coat: (didn't get a "before" shot, but it was your standard gold, with a few cracks and chips in it)

The last couple coats were laid on pretty thick in an attempt to fill the chips, but a billion air bubbles started popping and it turned out rough. After looking at it for a while, I like it better this way. It's a rather direct reflection of me - comes across a bit abrasive and a little rough on the edges
Front end:

Next on the list are the whole grill and bumper chrome, and the door molding, whether it just be the chrome strip or the whole thing. I haven't decided yet whether to remove the "1500" badges on the sides and the "Chevrolet" and "Silverado" badges on the tailgate. I might PD them first and see how I like it. This is my progress so far - let me know what you GM enthusiasts think!

Me too. I would go ahead and do your front grill as well.

The nice thing about plastidip is that you don't have to mask off everything... just tape off your lines, then rub off any overspray. Took me about 15 minutes to rub off the overspray when I did my grill... would have likely taken as long, or longer, to have masked it off 'properly'

Yeah I just did my tailgate badges today. Overspray came off easily. Just overprotected the first time.
