Personally I'd go LTZ or High Country if going Chevy and SLT/Denali/AT4 if going GMC.

Mainly for the interiors, and the front end on the Chevy trucks.

But the base trucks are all the same so basically your just paying more for fancier interiors and obviously more options on the higher trim levels as well. So if you don't need or want the features of the higher trims, you'll still get the same truck at its core in a LT trim as you would a High Country.

Now some engine/trans options aren't available in the lower trim levels. But they are slowly making that better. You can get the 6.2 in the LT trailboss now.

i am still thrilled with my 2016 base model. those bed rail LEDs are freaking AWESOME! sometimes when i pull up to the house at night, i’ll just sit there and flick ‘em on and off for a few minutes.

Never bought a new one and most likely never will, but the one I’d buy should have leather, butt coolers/heaters, full center console etc. So yeah, should be pretty much decked out. What ever it means in the model designation speak...

Heated and cooled seats are very nice.
My "First World complaint" is the heated steering wheel is only on or off. On gets too hot and I wish where were ranges of heat.

Not a big fan of leather seats and my last truck had heated cloth seats but I wanted more toys.
