Thanks. I’ll look in the owners manual and see if it says the speed at which they close. If the shutters not closing not sure why my temperature would go up unless for some reason the thermostat is closing, but I don’t notice a spike in trans temp when it happens.

It’s not the shutters causing the issue. Most likely a bad tstat.

Many active grille shutter systems are programmed to change position based on the vehicle’s traveling speeds, but GM’s aerodynamic shutters have a proprietary algorithm that monitors several variables in real time – including engine load, vehicle speeds and ambient temperature – to determine if the shutters should be opened or closed.

How did you used the scan tool to check the shutters. I have the snapon Solus Ultra and I'm not familiar with doing that. I have done what you showed to delete the shutter to make room for a intercooler and I like what you described. Thank You

I emailed one of the custom tune companies and they told me they can't control the shutters from what they do for ECM or TCM tune. Once my warranty expires I plan to just cut the shutters out so there is nothing to block air flow when they close and at the same it won't throw a CEL.

I can always tell when mine close, happens when I going up hill and the MPG drop below 12 for a certain amount of time when driving ov 55 mph. I have one stretch of interstate where at 65-70 mph takes about 30 seconds to travel and the MPG drop below 12 the shutters close and my engine temp peaks up to about 225ish. After the road levels out mpg goes back up 15-18, shutters open and temp drops back to just a hair under 210.

Somewhere (sorry, but I dont' remember where/what forum) there was a thread about the aero shutters and someone from the supplier suggested just removing the slats that interfered with the light bar.

His point was that there is no sensing that can determine if that has happened or not.

Let the motor command/move it's end of the mechanism, without changing any programming.
Not something I've done, but when reading the post it made sense -- and it's not hard to try.

That's exactly what I plan to do. Removing or cutting them out. If you ( or anyone) can find that post I'd like to see it. Not sure if is easier to remove them or simply cut them out, I think I can cut them out with a pair of tin snips just inserted through the grill without taking off the front end of truck.

What you have to do is with HP Tuners is to tell the computer to ignore / disable, the signal from the shutter motor.
That way you will not get the service engine light.
I've done this on my truck without issue.
