Door locks when closed.

Door locks when closed.

Postby 1177zr71 [OP] » Nov 07 2019, 6:18pm

Was working on my truck, 2000 Silverado 4x4 today. Got out and closed the door. When I went to open it was locked. Of course the keys were in the ignition. Got spare and unlocked. Now every time I close the drivers door it locks on it's own. Passenger door does not do it.Took panel off and sprayed the lock and rod with white grease. Still locks every time it's closed.

Something I noticed when I got the truck a few years ago is the manual lock lever does not move much. The red paint showing it's unlocked is barely visible and I can not slide it to the right any.

Anyone got any ideas?

Weren’t there setting for door lock preferences even back then? I vaguely recall my 02 having them. If you have the owners manual I would check there. Also might make sur the range sensor is working properly. If the computer thinks it is in drive it will lock the doors.

My 2001 has the programmable door locks with options. It's covered in the owner's manual.

Yes. When I bought the truck the doors locked at 10 mph but would not unlock till the key was removed. I disabled this a long time ago. My problem is with motor off, when I close the drivers door it locks. just started doing this today.

Try shutting the door VEEERRRRYYYY soft and see if the doors lock. There could be a loose connection or short that is triggering the lock actuator when you jar the wires by shutting the door.

Sounds like it could be a problem with the body control module or a programming problem. Would need the FSM to determine what can be done.
Could always go the your local chevy dealer and ask. Hopefully they have an experienced Tech that can tell you what needs to be done from experience. Without charging for the info.
Then, at least you'll have a clue as to what to do next.
Good Luck with it and please report back with what you find out.
Thanks

I would think it has more to do with faulty door lock switch just activating when the door is slammed.

If I close it gently it does not lock but if I close it like normal it locks. Passenger door does not lock so I know it's in the drivers door only. Going to pull the panel off next week and check lock actuator connections.

Maybe a shorted or pinched wire in the door jamb area?

Yep, that's what I thought might be the issue. A short in the wiring in the door, a connection or the actuator.
