Steering wheel adjuster

Steering wheel adjuster

Postby shakenfake [OP] » Feb 11 2020, 1:37am

Someone tried to steal my truck a few years ago and broke my steering wheel adjuster. In the 99 it has a metal holding thing that holds the actually plastic piece, at least I think it was plastic I really cannot remember. Anyways part of the adjuster broke off and is in the holder. I am not sure if this metal piece that was left behind is supposed to come out or if it is stuck forever. Here is a photo of what I am talking about that may explain it a bit better than I can.
Can anyone direct me to a video of someone taking apart a 1999 Silverado steering wheel please and thank you. The 99 is different than every other year iirc

Thank you thank you

This should be the lever...and it should pull straight out. From the shaft on the ebay part...it seems like something is not right looking on your picture.

Can you grab that metal piece with pliers or anything and pivot it?

That is for a 00 and up, they have an all plastic piece that comes out of some sort of plastic housing
I was at the pick n pull trying to find the piece and that is why I know it is different in the two trucks
I have thought about trying to yank that bastard out but just haven't yet to be honest

This is a Malibu one, this shows that part of the piece possibly is metal

I know this is a bit of a necro, but for any other 99 Silverado/Sierra owners or for anyone who is interested, the steering wheel tilt lever is part number 26067526. It was only put into two vehicles ever and discontinued after. The 99 Silverado and Sierra in every trim available. This is incredible they found a way to save probably a dollar a vehicle by switching to all plastic ones and they did holy crikey.
