Steering wheel radio buttons

Have radio buttons on wheel but no wiring

Steering wheel radio buttons

Postby doublearon98 [OP] » Apr 28 2021, 4:05pm

I have something that seem quite strange and pretty hard to find info on.

My 2006 silverado had the steering wheel button added onto to it from the factory as a custom build. I know this because whoever 1st bought was awesome and kept all the OG documents from when they bought in glove box.

I went to hook up my pioneer radio yesterday but the factory radio harness from the truck doesnt have the steering wheel signal wire. Did they just add in the buttons to fill the holes in or am I stupid and missed something. The steering wheel buttons for the instrument cluster do work.

New radradio is a Pioneer AVH-W4500NEX. I DO NOT have Bose or OnStar.

Also does anyone have experience setting up pioneers external navigation. Figure I might as well since this radio is nav compatible.

Thanks!

It's not a real custom item, I have them on my 2006 as well. You'll need a harness to retain the controls with an aftermarket system. I believe PAC Audio makes one that has what you need, would cover all wires.

I finally found some info. The steering wheel controls work through the class 2 serial data wire, pin A1 on the factory plug. A scosche gm2000sw adapter is needed.

Sadly I cant retain them because the new pioneer radios use iDataLink, and it seems this is not compatible with these trucks until 2007 ☹

Call someone like Crutchfield and see if they have an adapter. I gotta believe someone makes one.
