Upgrade gauges from 4 to 6 gauge package

Upgrade gauges from 4 to 6 gauge package

Postby oldfart76082 [OP] » Feb 27 2021, 4:54am

I currently have my 2009 GMC Sierra 4.3l V-6 with the 4 gauge instruments and want to purchase a used 6 gauge set. I know i will have to reprogram it to my vehicle vin. My question is will any from 2007 - 2011 work or will it have to be a specific part number?

I purchased one for my truck about 4 years ago. It plugged right in and worked with no issues. It didn't need to be programmed to the vin in my case. Just had a friend change the milage and engine hours to my correct mileage and hours and haven't looked back since.

The trim piece looks correct. Make sure the actual cluster that you get is from a truck with the same transmission. 6 speeds have PRNDM and 4 speeds have PRND321. Other than that should be plug and play. You will still need the mileage programmed to be correct unless you don't care about it being correct

Searching that part number on ebay, the only listings that come up are for the four gauge bezel. Not the most reliable source, but something to go on.

Also make sure it is out of a truck that has the factory brake controller or not depending on if your truck has it or not. If you search for my posts you can read about the hassle I went through finding one that worked in my truck.

Even though it shows it’s for a 6 gauge setup it’s actually for a 4 gauge. I looked on gm parts site and say the same. But when you look it up on eBay with that number there are half dozen or more.
