grinding sound when driving

Postby buzzAR [OP] » Dec 30 2015, 5:36am

It started making a grinding sound about a year after i replaced the old rearend that had the spider gears swarm on me.I replaced it with a G80 out of a salvage yard.it does it when you hit a bump mostly and sometimes when i'm just driving. I've replaced the transfer case after the local shop drove and said thats what it was.I pulled the cover off the rearend and found teeth of of the narrow gear on the G80 so i ordered a detroit true track posi and had it put in.It helped out it doesnt do constantly but it still makes the sound. You can make it stop if you let of the gas or stop the truck and start again.Any help would be greatly appreciated. It has a 4;10 gear ratio running 285/75/16s

To me it sounds like its coming from the rear. its louder on the left to me.It doesnt matter weather your in four wheel drive or not.Just running over a patch in the road will set it off.It sounds like the trucks fixin to come apart.

have someone ride in the bed and hit a few bumps (small ones) and see if they can verify the noise is coming from the rear end. Once you have the sound located, you can better diagnose the problem component and the issue.

If you can't fix it with a hammer, it is an electrical problem
