6.0 no/low oil pressure

6.0 no/low oil pressure

Postby Stanced_Nali [OP] » Apr 03 2018, 9:17pm

When i pulled into work this morning my dash showed no oil pressure at all it was ready 0. I got out and ready really bad knocking/tapping from the top end. Well I shut the truck off had it towed to a place to fix it. They changed the oil filter and the pressure went up to reading 5 pounds on the instrument cluster and now there is no noise at all no knocking or tapping. But I'm still only ready 5 pounds. Any suggestions on what could be wrong with it? Or what I should do? This is a 05 sierra denali btw

I had the same problem a couple of months ago. Of course, there are always more than one possible issue to a problem. From what I read, the common issues for this truck are the oil pump pressure relief valve sticking open and/or the oil pickup tube o-ring failed. Again, from what I read the most common issue when it goes from perfect to zero over night is the pressure relief valve sticking. So I put my truck in the heated shop for a couple days while I decided what to do and to see if the valve was somehow frozen (live in Canada). This didn't work so I ordered the oil pump and replaced it. Its not expensive to do but it takes a lot of time.

That being said, I would check your oil pressure with a mechanical gauge first to know if the sensor is bad (which is also a common failure). I knew it was the pump because I had the lifter tick that only started with the zero oil pressure. Since your noise went away, maybe the sensor is bad.

Ok so the shop mechanically tested my truck and there was no oil pressure so they said the pump is bad and they fixed the pump and told me my truck was all good to go and it was in spec and etc. Then they call me today and say that at idle it's only reading 10 pounds on the cluster. But when your at a constant speed it's over 30? So what else could be wrong with it if the pump dident fix it
