Satellite radio and onstar issues

Satellite radio and onstar issues

Postby BRADLYR1974 [OP] » Jan 27 2017, 1:18am

I recently purchased a 2009 Sierra and absolutely love it. Since I bought it though, the onstar hasn't worked. The emergency and phone buttons work but not the blue Onstar button. Onstar operators say they can't communicate with the truck. The light on the right side of the mirror is solid red. Recently, the satellite radio has started cutting out alot, way more than any factory or aftermarket radios that I have had in the past. Is there a chance the 2 problems are connected? Maybe a bad shark antenna on the roof? Also,is there a chance the vcim is bad? I'm sure I'm not the only one to have these issues. Thank you in advance.

It is most likely that antenna it does both functions. I have seen Vcims crap out but not as much as the antenna.

could be that the antenna to the component (behind the radio) is unplugged. That's the easiest location to gain access to if a person wanted to disconnect the antenna.

If it comes and goes that will not be the case as the signal will never be recivied. The radios need input to create out put but in this case I would go in the direction of the antenna. I like your methodology, less invasive is always better

Pretty sure I can get the same antenna on Ebay for $50 that the dealer wants $270 for. I'll probably try that route first
