2019/2020 Navigation Upgrade/Swap

Postby Mysweetss [OP] » Mar 22 2020, 1:46pm

Hey,

I was thinking of trading in my 2019 GMC Canyon Denali(been having some issues with it) for a 2019/2020 GMC Sierra Elevation. When i went to build and price it, i found that you can't get the navigation system in it unless the trim level is SLT or higher. I was wondering if you can swap out the infotainment system on the Elevation for the navigation variant? And if so, is it just plug and play? Thanks for the information in advance.

If it’s anything like the 14-18 you have to install a new module that’s about $800.

Yes navigation is only available on the higher trim levels. But since it has iplay you really don’t need the sometimes crappy oem navigation

Looks like the Elevation model with the "Preferred Package" gives the IOS infotainment system, but the USB does not come with the SD reader. Can you just swap out the non SD version for the SD one?

No idea. Those trucks are too new and not much modding has been going on. But generally it’s cheaper to buy the truck with all the options you want up front..

I just use CarPlay and my iPhone Maps on my 2020 Silverado RST. Works great.

Agreed. Not a concern if you can use android auto or carplay. I haven't used my NAV in my 2019 but from my experience manufacturer navigation is old and outdated.

The nav through android auto or car play is SO much better than the built in nav.

The built in nav is so slow and clunky, and you don't get live traffic updates and the other various features of google maps, or one of the other navigation apps you can use, such as waze (based off google maps).

I will at some point be upgrading the system in the 15 so I can go back to using android auto. I have the built in nav now and hate using it.
