Best setup?

Best setup?

Postby chrispcguy [OP] » Jan 14 2020, 4:38am

I have the 1500 4.8L and removed my back seats. Now have two Rockford fosgate P2d2(2ohm) in a nice big ported box 3.8cu with a 2000 watt boss audio amp and they hit real hard. I have a set of Pyle 4ohm 12s would like to put in a sealed box on my older 1000watt amp for the softer bass range. I have my big box stuffed with industrial cotton padding and it made a huge difference, used what was left over from ghetto dynomat the cab with the cotton and it did make a big difference. I have only done Walmart $30 in front door which sound better then factory but thinking of putting those on a small kicker 400watt amp. Any suggestions or ideas to get the most out of my system! Thanks

Did you put the cotton stuffing in the doors? If you did, are you concerned that it will hold water and cause rust?

What head unit? Factory/aftermarket?
What kind of power is supplying the amps? alt/cabling?
I wouldn't just put another box of subs in the truck with the other box without knowing the specific frequencies the boxes will do work at and having them cut off at those frequencies best suited for each. Ideally one box plays lower frequencies and the other higher. The boxes should slightly overlap for a good frequency spectrum that has a low chance of frequency cancelling, reinforcement or creating distortion. This is easier said than done since you would have to know how each specific sub will react in a specific box at a specific power, frequency and the environment it is in (truck). The same sub will act different with another sub in the same box. Same brand and size even. Even port direction into an environment can change things up. It's a bad idea to mix those subs. If you insulated the cab I would assume the doors were done since they are a serious window for added noise besides the actual windows. With that said, I also would be worried about cotton or organic material for that matter in the doors. They will mildew and turn into a science project. On to the door speakers. If they aren't being high passed, they are playing frequencies that they aren't efficient at producing regardless of what a speakers spec range is stated as being muddying things up or adding distortion trying to keep up with subwoofers.
