Best setup?

Postby PuckUSMC29 [OP] » Jan 05 2012, 9:43pm

In my old truck I had a pioneer double din with 1 12" sub in the back... I could only hear the bass most of the time... I was very unhappy. Now that I just bought my silverado and i have a fresh start, I'm wondering some opinions on the best setups... Not necessarily brands, but what I should run so that my music isn't getting baffled out buy my sub. But I still want my subs to hit.

If you're already liking the sounds and just want to add bass to it. Get an amp that has the bass controller knob so you can adjust on the fly.

The speakers aren't loud enough. I've tried adjusting the settings, but since i have loud tires/ exhaust I can't hear much. When I'm sitting still it is fine but since i drive 6 hours to go home on the weekends... I need a little more noise.

Is 2k for speakers only or are you switching out your head unit as well? With 2k worth of speakers, subs and amps you'll be getting a really nice system. I like Alpine. Just because they're the innovator of mobile electronics. They pattern the first mobile GPS system. Their new PDX amps are half the size of regular amps and draws half the power from your battery . Everything I have bought from Alpine have lasted me longer then the time I had my car. Anyways, hope you post some pics when you get your new system.

Nice head unit. Has 4 volt preamp. Most amps today require that. A couple draw backs about it is it's only a 3 band EQ. But todays amps and compenent speakers you can adjust your hrtz to filter certain sounds. Another drawback is it has no AV. If you ever decide to add a backup camera or monitor. But it wouldn't stop me from buying. HU definitely looks clean.

Speakers are great. They only need 50rms of power. There are tons of high quality amps. What I like again (preferences), Kenwoods Excelon class, Alpine PDX class, and JL HD' class amps. Do you drive a crew cab? If so, we're limited in space. With your setup a Kenwood XR-5S or the JL HD900/5. These amps will power everything you need with ease. And no additional battery or battery upgrade neccessary. They only require 8 gauge power and ground wire. Go with 4 guage if you can.

I'm not a big fan of these competitions subs. Because they're single voice coil and they run at 4 and 8 ohms. I would get the CompVR just because it's easier to work with and can be use with just about any Mono Class D amp.

My favorite amp even though it's not the most powerful of the 3 is the Akpine PDX-M5. The size of it is unbelieable. You can virtually mount it anywhere inside your cab. It won't be able to run a pair of 10C124's but you can run a pair of CompVR easily.

So i should run 2 separate amps for the speakers and the subs? I'm open to a better double din if you have recommendations.
