New radio...chimes when ignition is turned off

New radio...chimes when ignition is turned off

Postby cliffw42 [OP] » Jun 23 2012, 2:30pm

I have a 2005 Silverado 2500 HD, extended cab, no Onstar, no Bose.
I just installed a new Sony radio (CDXGT56UI that is SiriusXM Satellite radio connector ready) with the Metra Axxess universal steering wheel control interface, and a Sirius-XM SXV200V1 XM In-Car Tuner and Antenna by Audiovox to plug into the Sony radio. I also replaced the two front speakers with Sony 6.5” speakers.
Everything is working fine, except now, when I turn off the ingition, after about 5 seconds I hear a chime (sounds like a doorbell…two dings) coming from the speakers. It repeats two more times, all in the space of about 5 seconds.
Can anyone tell me what that’s all about?
Thanks.

Mine does also, I don't know why there is no mention of it in my owners manual.

yep, not sure why, but it's very common. My dad's radio does that as well, rather annoying if you ask me.

My old Sony did that also. It's to remind you to remove the faceplate.

After 5 seconds it stops? Or is it continuously chiming until you stick the key in the ignition to wake up the radio? I know on some GM cars the brain (interface module) wakes up after it goes into standby and would start chiming until you stick the key back in. If it's continuing to chime the only thing I know to stop the chime is to turn the radio off manually and not by the door.

Yep...it stops after 5 seconds. It does 3 repetitions of three beeps (9 beeps total). I'm sure Kazakaz and Spitfire are correct...it's telling me that I need to take the faceplate off (that's my story, and I'm sticking to it).

a lot of aftermarket head units that have a removable faceplate do this, there is normally an option to turn it off somewhere in the functions menu, i know i could with my last 2 pioneers and panasonic head units

Next time i'm home, I'll look it up in the manual and see if I can disable it. It's really annoying.
