Ported subwoofer box for my 2001 ext cab gmc

Postby keaton_ozipko [OP] » May 16 2013, 7:57pm

Hey everyone! I'm trying to find a ported subwoofer box that will fit under the seat of my 2001 gmc ext cab. I'm currently running 2 10W0 jl audio subs it a sealed box but I'm looking to upgrade to W3's and would like to put then in a ported box. I'm looking for eather plans on how to build one or where to buy one. If anyone thinks I should stay with a sealed box let me know!
Thanks!

I would get a custom box that is tuned for your truck. I use Brian at Starr Mountian Sound. Check out his work, his prices are great! Every box is custom built and not mass produced.

I doubt that you will find a ported box that will fit beneath the rear seat. At least not one that is properly tuned. The sealed boxes that are made to fit under the rear seats of our trucks are just barely big enough for the subs that are used in them. A properly tuned ported box will always be larger than a properly tuned sealed enclosure. Now if you want to replace the rear seat with an enclosure that's another story.

I have a ported box for 2 10's under the backseat of my 2000 GMC, its a down fire box I'm unsure of the brand I bought it at a audio shop tho so I know there readily available.

But having a box built for your speakers and cab size will always sound better. You will more than likely need to raise your rear seat for one to fit tho.

Let me see, 10w3v3 needs .625 sealed, or 1.125 ported. You should barely get by with enough airspace for each with a custom box, but needing only .625 sealed, i would just go with 3 instead of 2 which will make up for the dbs gained with the ported design. No replacement for displacement

Give Brian at Starr Mountain a call. I have a ported box for 4 8's being built now tuned at 34 with the ports facing the doors it will go lower. Used to have 3 10's under there without a problem. I'm pretty certain you can get a ported box for 2 tens under your extended cab seats. Where there's a will there's a way, just will take proper timing and planning along with proper speaker selection.

I have a Kicker L7 10" under my rear seat in a pre-made ported box. It fits just perfectly so the seat locks in the down position. It's on the driver's side facing up and the port faces the door. I can feel the air being pushed from the sub on my left arm when I have it cranked up. I'd like to have it downfire so it hits harder, but it's more fun when somebody is sitting on it  I have my wires ran underneath the carpet too, coming up through small cuts. I like my setup. It hits hard.
