Which of these Subwoofers are best for the job?

Concerned with sound quality in a downfire box

Which of these Subwoofers are best for the job?

Postby phard7045 [OP] » Aug 15 2011, 9:40pm

I have a 2008 Chevy Silverado. I'll be using a downfire box purchased from musicmoose.com for (2) 12" subs and an Alpine MRP-M500 to push them. I'm a little undecided on which would fit my set up the best. I'm more concern about SQ over SPL, but I would like to be heard at least a block away. I plan on going 2 ohm to get the full potential out of the Amp.

Musicmoose Box: .98 cu ft per chamber
6" mounting depth

Alpine MRP-M500: @ 2ohm (500 X 1 RMS)

Which of these three would be best for what I'm looking for :
1) Alpine SWS-1223D (300 RMS ea.)
2) JL 12W1v2 (150 RMS ea.)
3) Memphis 15-PR12S4v2 (250 RMS ea.)

JL will work best for what you have out of those three subs. You could also look into the Kickers also.

Look at a few Kicker L7 12"s or some Kicker CVX 12"s

Since you can only get a sub that is 6" deep I would say getting Kicker 12" CVT's they're 4 3/8" deep and handle 400 rms each, so you can even get a bigger amp like the Kenwood KAC-9105D that will push 900W at 2 ohms. But if I were you, I would check out subthump (they sponsor this forum even) for a box, i know they make a dual 12 enclosure for silverado's that can take a 6.5" sub which would allow you clear Kicker 12" CVR's which are the fullsize version of the CVT's. They handle 400rms as well. I had two CVT's in my old dakota and they were all I could ask for in that small truck. With a 08 Silverado and all that cap space, I would definitely go with the CVR's or something along those lines. Good luck.

You are getting more Kicker responses but, the JL Audio will perform the best in your situation.
