Activating fans with Diablo U7198 revision 2.10

Postby Topfuel67 [OP] » Nov 23 2019, 11:12pm

I have a 01 Silverado 4.8l V8 5 speed manual transmission 2wd. I finally found a predator tuner u7198 on revision 2.10. I had high expectations for how much improvement it would make and was still shocked by how much it did. I can fry my tires in first, second and keep them going in third. On ramps in the rain are difficult to get traction.
Now I would like to do the electric fan conversion. Can I have a custom tune to just activate the fans through the Diablo 87 octane tune? I adjust my own fuel and spark and run an afr meter. I don't want any other parameters being adjusted. Or is it easier to just make a harness and wire it directly to the thermostat?

Looks like a nice clean setup here.

Thank you for the link, but that still requires ecm tuning. I want to know if I can get a simple custom tune on top of the canned predator tune.
I plan to get the factory dual fans from an 05 with all of the factory connections.

You dont have a custom tune over top of anything.

The custom tune IS the tune. With your old predator, when you install a custom tune to the device the canned tunes will disappear anyway.

You should email Lew and see if he is able to provide any insite. I believe the ECM has the ability to run e-fans, but it needs to be enabled. I know my 01 had the option for fan temp in my intune. Never messed with it since I did not have e-fans.

So I wonder if I return my truck to factory tune, have the ecm tuned for the fans and then run my predator tune on top of that if it will work?

I think your still confused how this tuning works.

There is the factory tune, which is just as it came from GM.

Then there is the "canned" tunes you have on your predator.

And finally there is custom tunes you can have made for you and install them via the predator

You can ONLY have ONE of the three choices above at a time. So either your running the stock tune, one of the preset canned tunes or a custom tune.

Whichever you pick will overwrite whatever is currently on the ecm. But the way the predator works is that you need to restore the truck to the factory tune and then load the custom tune onto the device, which will then get rid of the canned tunes, then you can install the custom tune to the truck.

That's what I was wondering. If the predator canned tune completely overwrites the ecm and doesn't have the fan settings it won't work. I'll figure out a wiring harness to bypass the ecm then. Thanks for the replies.

That's still not what I'm saying.

Either way, factory tune, canned tune, or custom tune, unless the fans are enabled and everything is there, they will not work.

Just look up e fan conversion for your truck.

The ecm is capable of running them(turning them on). You just need to have a tune made to enable the ecm to send the signal.

It's really quite simple, and will then be just like the factory setup.

The tunes do not overwrite the ecm to the point where it no longer functions how it was designed. Simply the parameters are adjusted to optimize them for the given truck and driving.

Send lew an email. I am sure he can explain things far more in depth than I can even begin to
