Procedure for Lew tune

Postby cblades [OP] » Sep 25 2019, 5:09pm

I was curious what the procedure is when you order a tune? If I purchase one of Lew's package deals that comes with a diablo device what happens after that? Is it something he sends me a file and I upload it to the device via my computer? How many miles need to be put on the device before custom tuning? Thanks for the assistance.

Oh, its a 2017 crew cab short bed Z71 with 3:42 gears, 2 1/4 level, and 33x12.5x20 inch tires.

It's super easy. He sends you a long, descriptive email when you buy his tune.

But basic rundown is as follows.

-Buy his tune, assuming you already have the intune/trinity

- run whichever canned tune you want for around 150 miles

-record an steady driving log and send it to Lew via email.

- Lew will send you an initial tune. Install run it for some more time.

- Record a WOT log and email it to Lew.

- He sends you your final tune.

Just be sure to let him know all your mods and what not when you send your first logs. You will need to adjust your tire size. Try 31.5" first. That should get you about close or right on.

And here's Lew's exact words!

You
receive the tool... the first thing you would need to
do is update it to all of the latest updates... once all the
updates are done and complete, then you are ready to connect
it to your vehicle and select one of the preset tunes --
either the "87 Octane Tune" if you use 87/89
octane gas most of the time, OR the "Diablo
Tune" if you're going to use 91/93 octane gas
all the time....
Then it
should ask you to select a TCM tune for the tranny, so
select the "Firm Shift" tune...
then select Install/Apply Tune and
install the tunes... the tool will first save the
copies of your original backup stock tune files in itself,
and then it will continue and install the performance tunes
you selected.
once the
install is done, then you're good to go with the preset
tune.
Then
you'd need to drive a few days or so until you get at
least about 150 miles put on the preset tune so that
everything gets relearned by the ECM and settles in, and
then you'd be ready to record the steady driving data
log. And I have info/instructions for how to do
everything, so no worries there....
Once you have the data log done,
then, you'd connect the tool back up to your computer...
get copies of the original backup and last tune written
files, and the data log, copied from the programmer to your
PC, then you email me all of the files (the data log
file and all tune files), with your vehicle info - year,
model, engine, any mods done to it, etc...
I create you a custom tune file
and then email it back to you...
you import the custom tune file
into the tool... then connect the tool to your vehicle and
select the custom tune to install, then install the
tune...
you drive
however you normally do for a couple/few days until
you've put on at least about 150+ miles so that the fuel
trims and such have been relearned by the ECM and have
settled in, then we move on to the WOT fun!
haha...
I have you
do a WOT data log for me, I go through it, make any needed
adjustments to WOT fueling/timing, send you an updated tune,
you install it, get me a new WOT data log to check, etc...
once everything all looks good, you're good to
go.

Does the device plug into a USB port? I'm not very tech oriented when it comes to computers.

OBDII test port in the truck. USB on your computer when you update the device.

As mentioned, one of the most important things to do is update the tuner BEFORE you use it, even if it's a brand new tuner. After it's done updating, update it again and maybe a third time  just to make sure it captures any/all updates.
Then, and only, then, install a canned tune.

You will love the way Lew improves the driveability of your truck. It is worth every penny.

Thanks all for the responses. I was trying to decide what my next mod should be. I was up in the air with exhaust, tune, or 4.5 inch lift. After I get an exhaust will my custom Lew tune need an update?

Yes....but Lew will update free for 1 year, I believe....but you'll have to go thru the whole tuning process again.
