When it’s cold outside and I start my truck I hear a ticking noise. As the truck warms up it gradually goes away… Any ideas what I should do or check first? 2016 4.3 V6 silverado
I have a video but can’t post it here

To me, that sounds more like rubbing, or a scrapping noise. Maybe an alternator bearing, serpentine belt tension pulley bearing, or AC clutch plates not separating enough anymore. Anybody else??

^^^^ same here. Pull off the accessory drive belts and try to spin each pulley by hand to see if any of them sound or feel funny. Could be the water pump? Maybe run the engine for a minute or so without the belt on it to see if the noise is gone.

Something is definitely getting ready to fail. You are being warned by that sound. Have you noticed any small coolant puddles under the front end after truck has cooled off and parked overnight? That would probably be water pump bearing going out. As RedSLEd posted, remove the accessory belts, or at least the main serpentine belt, after engine has cooled, and turn every pulley by hand. Feel for slop and/or binding.

Well, metal contracts as it cools, or gets colder, and expands as it heats up. If it was oil related I would think the noise would go away in a few seconds, not gradually. A mechanics stethoscope might help to zero in on the source. Maybe try setting AC to coldest setting, then cycle the AC on and off while the noise is there. If it changes it could be in the compressor. You may need to get another set of ears to help.

I was gonna say the purge valve solenoid, they tick and its normal when the trucks are cold, goes away after warm up.

But that is horrendously loud and sounds bad.
