Clunk/pop noise from front end when turning at low speeds

Postby Yasoof11799 [OP] » Oct 23 2013, 8:08am

Anyone else having this problem? While making sharp turns at low speed (mostly when parking) There is a clunking/popping type noise from the front end, nothing is felt through the steering wheel.

Another problem is that recently the shocks or the suspension started squeaking every time I go up the driveway!

I'm not sure about this but I think it's all because at the university that I go to there is a limited amount of parking lots and sometimes I have to park on the sidewalk.. And sidewalks over here are HIGH !! So high that I actually have to put in 4-wheel drive to go up otherwise the rear wheels slip

And before I forget truck is 2012 sierra z71

Here is a pic of where I park my truck, might not look that high in the picture but trust me it is !

If you're in 4x4 on dry pavement when you're parking, this would most definitely cause the clunking noise you describe.

Usually just taking it out of 4x4 will do the trick. You might have to go fwd and backward a bit to get it out of 4x4

Besides the possibility of it being a cv joint, I'm afraid I'm out of answers... hopefully someone else will chime in with more suggestions!

I think i made a quick judgement there ... IT'S NOT GONE and i feel that it's becoming WORSE !! before the sound would just come up once or twice when reverse parking, but now even when i do normal left or right turns on some *not-so-level* roads or when going up speed bumps in a diagonal way, the clunking sound comes up!! I really think it's something in the suspension.. I only have the truck for a year and 4 months and i'm hearing weird annoying sounds.. but I do go up the sidewalks a lot.. Am I abusing the truck too much and it's wearing the suspension out ???

Ok so an update since i don't want to make a new topic....

Problems are still there they didnt go away:
- Front clunk noise when turning
- over some uneven surfaces clunking and squeaking noises all around the truck
- New thing, if at a complete stop or going at really low speeds and then give it some gas, making the front go a little bit up, there is squeaking noise in the front suspension.

but i noticed something which is that every time i go to a car wash and wash underneath, all noises go away for a few hours and then they come back!!

+I just bought Rancho shocks + QuickLift gonna install them later on and i'll see if the sounds will go or not.
