Creaking noise in the Steering

Creaking noise in the Steering

Postby Zilverado [OP] » Nov 04 2019, 3:00am

Two main questions......LOL!

1.) Is this the wrong section for a thread like this?

2.) Bought the truck new last December (‘18). Is it too soon for the steering to start creaking when turning the wheel? What’s the typical symptom and solution? I can hear it really good in a certain part of the steering wheel travel when I’m stopped or barely rolling, especially coming down my driveway.

Thanks for any help or advice...

Just a simple check of power steering fluid, perhaps? Just wasn’t sure if there were other things I need to watch out for.

There isn't any power steering fluid on these trucks.

It's an electric assist rack. Could grease your tierod ends and see if that helps any.

But I have read where some guys have had that creaking sound. Never really read through to see if they found anything.

But it's under warranty yet right? Let the dealer look at it.

Right, riiiiiighhhht..........I was, uhhh........that was just a test. Heh, I knew that. I mean, e’rybody knows that...........[emoji51]..........LOL!!!

For real, tho’.......it’s the kind of noise when something needs lubing. Who knows. Maybe I’m just OCD, but I do miss the quiet part of the brand new. [emoji12][emoji3061]

I agree about the lube job. I had a set of ball joints that would complain when starting to get dry.

Thanks, man - I may look into that. They’d be getting dry within the first year?

And I just went outside and moved my truck into the garage and it wasn’t doing it. Apparently only after I’ve driven it for a while and things warm up.......? Haha. Not sure what that means.

Decided this might help. Buddy of mine who owns a tire shop, but also does regular maintenances, as well as some front end work says it sounds to him like a ball joint somewhere, but says he thinks it’s not greasable, and probably shouldn’t be this noisy at a year old.

Whatcha’ think?
