Leveling Kit - New Shocks Worth It?

Leveling Kit - New Shocks Worth It?

Postby Zilverado [OP] » Nov 07 2019, 2:57am

2.25” ReadyLIFT leveling kit on the front with upgraded UCA’s. No change in the back. Noticed slightly stiffer than stock ride. What would be the most appropriate shock to consider changing to on the front to try to gain back some of the ride smoothness? Or is a shock not gonna’ help that much?

Figured mainly if I went with a shock that was designed to use with levels/lifts in this range since I’m assuming it lost travel like the spring did, making it stiffer. Or do I have that wrong....? It got stretched...? Either way, you get what I’m sayin’. LOL!

Thanks...

The springs dont get stiffer. You just limit the down travel.

At 2.25" it should be too bad, but depending on the terrain you will notice it.

The ultimate as far as ride quality and handling goes, is a good set of coilovers. But you'll pay anywhere from $800 and up for a set. Worth every penny in my book, but it's not for everyone

As far as sticking with struts, the Rancho 9000s series is decent, and would be my recommendation.

Not a problem.

You will also find the bilstein 5100s are a very popular shock. I'm not a fan of them personally but a lot of guys are. So that's another one you can look into.

Gotcha’. From what I’ve read, I think they’re gonna’ be too stiff for my liking. I want something to help the truck ride smoother, so maybe that does mean coilovers. [emoji1360]

Take a look at the CST coilovers. They are a good value and a great product.

I've had the fox 2.5s and now a set of the CST pro series. I would recommend either one. But I like the adjustment ring on the CST coilovers WAY better than the fox. It's much easier to adjust.

Boss and king are also two more great options. Boss being the cheaper end price wise and king being on the upper end of the scale.

The boss units seem to get great reviews from the guys on here who bought them.

The best way I can describe how the coilovers feel is picture driving an old whipped out suburban that floats and rolls it's way around the road, that's the truck on stock stuts. Then add the coilovers on and it feels like you just jumped into a corvette for the handling and still have a very nice ride quality.

Its amazing how much of a difference they make. And you can ask anyone on here who made the switch. Their impressions are all pretty much the same.
