I just bought an 02 Silverado extended cab with 147,000 miles. The shocks are pretty well worn. Looking for a good replacement. Don't need anything fancy as it is just a daily drive for school. But don't wanna buy the $25 Monroe shocks from oreillys either. Any suggestions?

Possibilities are endless....

This give a good listing of economy, OEM ride quality and HD shock options. And pricing. I selected the 5.3 liter engine not knowing what you have...but it probably does not make any difference really...

Yeah...I also went with AC Delco replacements when I swapped mine out.

I'm running the Monroe Sensa-Trac/OESpectrum shocks on my 2006 crew cab and had the Monroe Reflex on my 02 extended cab. Granted I haven't put a great deal of miles on either, but I am very happy with both of them. The Reflex line seemed to be a tad stiffer so I prefer the Sensa-Trac/OE line. I would use them again.

One of Monroes facilities is here in my neighborhood. Monroe is saturated around here. Gotta be over 20 Monroe garages within 30 min of me. I still don't run Monroe lol. I prefer Bilstein. I have used them in 2 trucks and 3 cars. They last a long time and in OP's case, they may be the last to put on that truck. 50 to 80k miles is not uncommon depending on the life they live. You could potentially replace cheap ones 3 times is the same span. Also if you don't install yourself there is potentially 3 times the labor in the same time span and you loose your truck those days too so the extra cost of them is more palatable in this case. Of course many will run an OE or cheap 25k mile shock for 80k-100k+ miles so what do I know.

I don't think anyone will argue that the quality of Bilstein parts far surpass Monroe, KYB, Gabriel, or any of the other run of the mill manufacturers. I have heard some complaints about their truck shocks and struts being a little on the stiff side for some people's liking but that's obviously subjective. That being said, my truck is a pavement queen and is lucky to see 5K miles a year. That makes it difficult to justify paying twice as much or more for "premium" shocks. I would liken it to buying Michelins instead of Firestones. If you have the budget to do it and intend to keep the vehicle long enough to get the use out of your expense, I say go for it. If not, there are other brands out there that are more than acceptable.

Considering the Monroe Reflex for my 2004 Silverado (2500, 6.0L). Do you still like yours?
