So, I have an issue that may stump some of you because it most definitely has me scratching my head. I have a 2000 Silverado with a 5.3 vortec in it and I’ve been having a hard time cranking it. 99% of the time, it won’t start on the first crank but every time on the second it fires right up. Just changed the fuel pump on it, changed the fuel filter, and before someone says the fuel pressure regulator, let me throw this in too….. it’s a brand new engine. Literally just got done dropping her in and hooking everything up. However, this starting issue has been present even with the old engine. I’ve changed the fuel pump TWICE within 6 months thinking that was it. No dice. Any suggestions??

You might try checking how the fuel pressure drops when the truck is off, maybe the fuel pressure regulator is letting fuel drain back to the tank, or one or more injectors are leaking fuel into the intake so air is getting into the fuel rails.

I have the Same Issue, Local Chevy Mechanic (Friend) when over the stating issue with me, IF you can start it easy right after you shut it off, AND if you turn key on 2 times for 2-3 seconds per time then turn it over to start and it starts, then the problem is the fuel sending unit. He said the backflow preventer valve in the unit is broken and every time i shut off the engine, the fuel line is draining back into the tank. So i am buying an AC Delco replacement
