2002 sierra 4.8L engine ticking

My 2002 sierra has always has a quiet lifter tick at idle. Recently at high revs it sounds and feels like something in the engine is shaking. If I keep the high revs going the check engine light starts flashing. The truck doesn't start beeping and it doesn't drive differently when this happens. The light stops flashing when I turn the truck off and then back on again.
I brought a code reader home and it has no stored codes.
I have also noticed that it is burning oil.
I have only put a new muffler and cold air intake on the truck for modifications and these have been on the truck for half a year.
I am getting concerned about this issue and would really like to have it fixed. Any ideas of what it could be?

I'd suspect you are having a misfire. There are lots of causes for this. since it is happening at high rpm's I'd check the fuel pressure to make sure the pump is supplying enough fuel. It sounds like the truck is running lean at higher rpm's, which is causing a misfire.
