Hello all
Need some help with transmission issue I am having. I have a 2005 silverado, 5.3L, 4x4 with 80,000 miles on the noise. I have noticed that the tranny seems to slip between 1 and 2 going from a stop. I also noticed a clunk when I put it in reverse the other day. I took it to the transmission place and they could not find anything on the computer codes. Is this normal? I have never had a slip in a transmission that was a good thing.

I have had so many things wrong with this truck since I bought it I am chalking this up to another GM issue. I really thought transmissions would last longer than 80K with no towing or heavy loads.

When was the last time you had the filter changed in the trans? and or the fluid? The Clunk could be the locking paw if you were parked on a hill at all or if there was drive line pressure from the curb or something like that if parked against the curb. Or could be a U joint.

Filter and fluid changed at 70K.
It was a slip as the RPM went up to 2500 then I let off the gas. Both times 1 -2 and I was not sure when it happened to my wife what RPM she took it to.
U joints looked ok, but the clunk could have been that. I am just concerned if the tranny is going should I rebuild it now before if fails? It will cost me no more that 1950 to rebuild the tranny at the shop now. Pending on if they find anything the cost could go down.
I am leaning to yes for ease of mind.

If you wait and it is something, then it could cause more damage to the trans. Which would increase the cost of the rebuild. They should be able to save mostly everything and just replace the clutch packing's. Im wondering if it isnt just a delayed shift from a bad valve or solenoid. Which would be much cheaper than a rebuild. Did you do the change at 70k or did you pay to have it done? Just wondering if you had seen alot of material in the pan or metal shavings on the internal magnet if you had done it. If yes then i would say its time for a build.

2 grand for a rebuild!? They're smoking crack rocks.

I just bought a new jasper transmission(finally I know I flipflopped a bunch) and to have it installed was only $2100... thats installed with aftermarket cooler and fluid... the shop owner is my best friend so he knocked off his markup and is charging me almost no labor... if I had purchased the transmission direct from jasper... the trans and cooler would have cost $2050... 3year 100k warranty on their transmissions....

2K for a rebuild is a good price for my area. They are a performance shop so the material they put in are all upgrades. It was this or 2500 for a reman which is stock parts and a 60K warranty. I going to go with the rebuild and see what happens.

The fluid was changed by my buddy who did not see anything in the pan that would make him question the transmission. So I do not know. I am most likely go to give them the green light to do the rebuild.
Thanks for the posts
