The tap the skinny pedal post was only sent as a tool that could help identify a problem, by using this simple method one can get the truck out of the V4 mode, once running on all 8 if the noise and vibration still exists the symptoms being cause by the AFM would be eliminated by allowing you to verify if your issue was actually being caused by V4 mode? Remember there is no such thing as a stupid question only stupid answers. :?

I have noticed that it is in the V4 mode when the slight rumble occurs. Sounds like everyone elses does this also so I'll assume that this is normal I guess this helps the mpg a little. One post on here stated that he had the dealer turn off the V4 mode and his mileage didnt change. I'll leave mine be. I can average 18.5 mpg if I feather the throttle and stay below 75 mph. This is far better than the other brands of trucks my friends have, Ford or Toyota.

after i installed my m.i.t. and drop in filter I could really hear this. Oh well turn up the tunes.

i have the same vibration problem caused by the active fuel management. by putting your tranny in manual 5th gear, it deactivates the afm, but by raising your rpm's your fuel economy will suffer slightly

I'll be getting an In-Tune tuner when I return from deployment if for nothing else to turn off the AFM. I hate that %$#@ vibration.

I have a 6speed 5.3 L and am currently trying to get the factory to turn off the v4 because i like my truck except for the vibration that occurs when it goes into v4. I feel that when the dealor says trade it for a 5 speed and this wont happen.. is a bad answer..think about this...vibration and bearings ...any mechanical person knows this is going to wear your bearings out..your engine is loaded with them...they need to fix this..vibration is not normal and saying it is.. doesnt make it normal.. this is a recall and needs to be addressed...btw see what they give you to drive when they tear down your motor for a couple of weeks..i got the smallest car gm makes. The programmer needs to go back and figure out how far he can stretch it..i think 6 speeds is enough adding the v4 has taken it to an unsafe vibration on your engine..ill let you guys know if they fix mine.

ok the dealer wont turn off the afm and the new 2014 has a 8 speed transmission with no afm..kinda funny how they adjusted the limits in 2011 and now they are going to eliminate the afm completely after the 2013s are gone..the idea was ok but engines do not run right on 4 when it has eight...thank God they are going to at least deal with it soon...no recall yet even though there should be!!!!

Actually, I heard that all GM truck engines will have AFM beginning in 2013....

Absolutely correct. Looks like everything in the GM 1500 truck will have the AFM.

From the GM press release on the new upcoming trucks:

Under the hood, the 2014 Silverado 1500 features a family of three all-new EcoTec3 engines, a V-6 and two V-8s, engineered specifically for use in full-size trucks. All three engines incorporate direct fuel injection, cylinder deactivation and continuously variable valve timing, a combination of advanced technologies not found in other competitors' trucks. All three switch seamlessly to four-cylinder operation to improve efficiency during light load driving and all three are engineered provide more power, more torque and better efficiency than the previous versions.

Truth be told, even the 6.2 gonna have it :(

well you guys are right!!! the sales guy told me that yesterday and told me he would call me when a 14 came in so i could trade mine in. After research i found that they are not getting rid of the afm but hopefully making it operate without the flutter and vibration that occures at speeds under 45mph when you try to drive conservatively in neighborhoods or any other low speed zones that you have to deal with.

If I had the $$$ I would be buying a 2013 6.2L. Although I am not opposed to the AFM, I would love the 6.2 without. :)

2014's are 6-9 months or more away from any dealers lot, its not supposed to start production till sometime in the spring/early summer of 2013. If it follows prior new launches it will be a year before the dealers are flush with 2014's. The order banks are not yet open for 2014 production and when it does it will be limited to 1 truck per dealer.

Also, they have not officially announced what engines will be available with what transmission and in what models besides general info so anything someone tells you today is mostly speculation. I personally asked my friend (this past Tuesday) who is asst sales manager at GMC-Buick-Cadillac Dealer and he says they have nothing official as to engine/trans combo.

I have spent considerable time on forums reading about the AFM, 6 speed transmissions, etc. PLUS, I am an owner of a 2011-Silverado Crew Cab w/the 5.3. For whatever it's worth here are my observations-

The 6 speed transmission is at best "unrefined". There have been solenoids replaced, torque converters replaced, seals replaced, all to have the problem to return shortly there after.
The general consensus among many of us is that it's the software in the TCM. I also believe (and I hope I am wrong) is no fix will be coming from GM due to the sheer numbers involved and it's not a safety issue.

When I first had my truck the switch to 8cyl. to 4cyl. was not noticeable. Now at 20,000ish miles it is somewhat noticeable.

For those of you interested, I am currently pulling a 28 foot travel trailer on a tour of the country. The truck is performing fine (given the above parameters). I have started from Utah, and traveled through Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, and currently we are in Lafayette,LA. The wife and I have been out a month.

The transmission actually seems to perform better with a load behind it.

Hey mach-going up to your town Christmas Eve. Someone said something about Christmas Eve bonfires along the river. Any info on that?
THANKS!

We are spending two nights this Thursday and Friday in BR, then on the The Big Easy. We were thinking driving just to see the Bon Fires. I guess now they are in doubt (for Christmas Eve) due to possible windy conditions. We will check with the Sheriffs Dept before we leave, if we decide to go.
