Hello all the oil pump went tonight and the top end started clanking. What has everyone been doing for engine replacements in these?

It seems there’s not many options out there. I would love a Blue Print engine but it seems they only make them for the previous gen.

thanks!

what year and how many miles? These are very robust engines and if you didn't I destroy crank or main journals it probably is very rebuild able.

2014 with 108k. I may be able to get away with the oil
Pump replacement. I’m sure they crank is fine. Mostly just valve train noise from oil starvation under the valve covers. Oil pressure went to zero and shut down almost right away.

If you shut it down right away, then I would suggest just doing the oil pump, prelubing the block if you can (my l96 has a port in the side w a plug, you screw in a fitting in there and then hand pump some oil in) and then run it and see. It's not a lot of effort to do, and it's probably enough for the engine to still work for a long time.

i just replaced the 5.3 in mine, what a hassle, i ordered a 63k mi engine from engine and transmission world, (never use them) got here after 4 weeks of delay, all busted up from shipping, mechanic replaced with some added insurance, all new seals bigger oil pan, 4 cil delete, higher temp tran cooler thermo and a few other things, but in retrospect..id order from LDQ or Advance..quicker, better warranty and more local to your location. i like a new or rebuilt as a repower is insurance for 100k miles..total cost for replacement was 3k for motor and 3k for install/modifications. Good Luck

Put in a new pump. Clean Every spec of sludge from heads you can see !! Drain oil pan remove filter. Remove oil pan & baffle , clean until spotless. Remove oil pick up tube and clean until spotless. Make Sure you replace "o" ring on tube ! Use blue thread locker on bolt holding tube. All new gaskets.
New oil and filter. I'd personally use only Pennzoil Ultra. Synthetics are FAR superior to Dino oil in every aspect. You are removing the obvious sludge so the extra detergents in pennzoil will not clog Anything. After oil change and reassembly hopefully you will have good oil pressure. If so just drive it. Another new filter after 500 miles. Another oil change and filter after another 500 miles. Hopefully all is well at that point. Oil change intervals 3k for Dino and 5k for Synthetic. I personally haven't used anything but Synthetic for 20 years. Previous 2000 Sierra with 349k on the clock still had cross hatching on cylinder walls and consumed NO oil between changes.
Everything in this post are my opinions and based on experiences with 2 - 5.3s and 1 - 6.0 since 2000. Good Luck
