Thinking of getting the Range DFM module for my 2024 Z71 5.3L, any input or thoughts? Bought new with a 10 yr unlimited powertrain warranty from dealer, I use it as my work truck so I can't afford for the lifters to fail when out of state. TIA

Well that Range device works very well in the fact that it will prevent the truck from activating that 4-cylinder mode.

But be aware, you still have the same hardware internal to the engine, so the lifters may or may not still fail.

The actual failure rate is still rather low, compared to the total number of vehicles produced.
Remember, GM builds approx 800,000 of these trucks per year.
You have a far greater chance of NOT having an issue.

My current 2019 2500HD doesn't have that DFM, so I didn't need to do anything.
But my previous Silverado 1500 did, and I used a Range device and it worked well.
Our Camaro SS also has DFM, and we use a Range device for it as well.
But the main reason why, is I wanted to keep that deep V8 sound.
With a factory exhaust you don't notice it too much, but any aftermarket exhaust and it sounds bad going back and forth.

i wish more poeple preached this.
I have been around alot of LS engines in the past 10 years. and i have only had 1 come in with a dead lifter. And that was on a 6.0 max truck i think about a 2006. Thats it, never had or seen another one.

If i join a heart attack forum i bet ill meet so many heart attack victims id probably not want to do anything in fear of a heart attack..

You really think that Range just moved away from using that OBD port for no reason?
GM really locked down some of the computer access to the new vehicles.
I am sure Range (and others) are doing as much as they can and will continue to work on new stuff.

But in most cases it is the vehicle manufacturer that dictates what they can and can't access.

We have the Carbyte installed on our 2024 and 2025 Silverados, and it works great for disabling DFM as well as auto start-stop. It plugs directly into the OBD port so you don't have to climb under the truck to disconnect it before going to the dealer like you do with the Range unit. To each their own but I can highly recommend Carbyte...especially when it's $149 at Amazon.

Also much easier (Carbyte) to unplug and remove for service than getting under truck particularly during winter in Minnesota if it became necessary……I have a Range RA003 on my 2007 LTZ (NBS) and it is really convenient. Never had it drain battery (I use an AGM)…..I actually bought the RA007 and returned it because my truck is new and I don’t want to risk any warranty issues. I will be getting a Carbyte soon.
