Has anyone used the extra battery tray in the 2016 Silverado 2500HD to run two batteries in the vortec 6.0? I am thinking of doing this. Are there any negatives or problems that arise due to this? Thoughts on oils be welcome

I appreciate the link thank you. What I am most curious is, are there problems running two batteries that I should be aware of? Can the starter handle it for example? I use this vehicle for plowing and thought the extra ams might help
Running GMC Sierra 2015 2500hd with dual batteries. Run positive to positive and negative to engine ground.. Works great..

To answer OP's question. No there are no issues by adding the 2nd battery provided it is installed correctly. It is advised to use the 2nd battery for plowing. I am looking to add a second to mine, only I am looking to isolate for camping purposes. You would run parallel for the extra juice needed with all the plow movements at low RPM. Keep your lights from dimming too. Under powering any electric motor is bad for it, so the extra juice is advantageous there too.
People add two batteries for plowing to help keep voltage up at low rpm plowing as mentioned already. But that will not stop you from draining it down completely if all you do is start it up, plow then shut it down. Eventually it will die, it would just take longer. So with plowing, you still need to run it good to charge back up.
If your adding for plowing, and if your only plowing your own driveway, you may want to consider some kind of charging "station" as opposed to a second battery(having a charger in your driveway under something to keep it dry).
Or you can do what I'm doing. After Im done plowing I will set my remote starter to keep the truck running after I pull the key out. That way it can charge back up after I'm done. I'll shut if off after 10 minutes from inside.

That's my solution. I just have a charger on the battery when not in use to keep things up. Don't need to worry about the charger in the weather as pickup (with plow on it) is in heated garage when not in use.
I installed 2 new batteries and wiredthe positives together and grounded to the engine. I go to places that cold -20 is common. Helps alot when I cant plugin the engine block heater.
Another thing to consider when you are adding or replacing a battery is get the best battery you can buy. The Odyssey batteries have some incredible technology in them that allows you to drain them like a deep cell but can deliver some over the top cranking amps even after using a quick charger on them for only 20 minutes.
Something else you may want to consider when adding a second battery, which I don't think was mentioned yet, is that if your current battery is older than 1 year, you may want to consider purchasing 2 batteries, of similar size / power. I get this information when coming from the boating world, and most have multiple batteries to run stereo's and other fine equipment. Supposedly, the older one will drain the newer one if they are not very similar in age, size, and power.
10 minutes run time will not even come close to recharging a low battery/batteries after plowing. I made up a battery tender with a 25 foot extension cord and trailer plug, left the charger in the garage and plugged the cord into the trailer plug, worked like a champ. To the OP if you chose to wire it like the OEM plow option dual batteries be aware that the batteries are not tied together until the truck is running, you will still be starting the truck with only 1 battery.
I know this post is a little old but to the OP I run dual batteries in my 09 2500 and my brother does the same in his 1500 because it really does help with the plow. You never have to worry about killing your battery or wearing it out faster since it draws from both. Bonus because you can play the radio in the truck with it off for twice as long without worrying about it dying
