Hello everyone I’m very glad I found these forums, as I’m new to my own service on my truck and I’m trying to catch up on my rear and front differential. I’ve decided to put 75w-90 in both. I have a G80 rear differential and I am very confused with the limited slip additives and how they can harm my diff. I have bought to different brands of oil, which one should I use in my front differential and which one should I use in my rear differential? And are they both safe for my rear differential? Thank you for your time in advance

Welcome to the site.

G80 is a mechanical locker, not a limited slip. It doesn’t require any LSD additives, just run regular gear oil.

So you have never used Lucas products is what your telling us. No experience with them but they are junk in your eyes. Gotcha 🤣

My last truck, 2004 2500HD Sierra 6.0L, went 534,000 on the original power train using Mobil 1 oil and K&N filters, Valvoline transmission fluid and AC Delco filters, GM Auto Trac transfer case fluid, and you guessed it…Lucas gear oil in the front and rear diffs. The frame finally gave out because the truck wouldn’t die.

You do you and I’ll stick to what works for me cause it obviously does work well for me

One doesn’t need to use a product to see reviews and other people’s interactions. I’ve never owned a Jennings or Hipoint pistol and never will because they’re junk. I don’t need to own one to see if it’s junk or not.

I wasn’t posting that to tell someone to change their mind or their views. I even prefaced it with “personal preference” for crying out loud lol. I also posted a link to a universally respected and known lubricant forum that has an owner of an oil company and Lake Speed Jr himself as a poster with people saying it’s not that great and then I also included the company's own information as to why I believed what I said. I’m not here to convince you to switch products. If it works for you, that’s awesome. Keep using it. It’s just that I don’t believe it’s that great of a company so I don’t use their products.

Ive used Lucas products since 2002 and never had any issues??
If it was as bad as he says my poor truck wouldnt be running still since the engine takes a weekly drink of lucas. If its just a thickener then thats just what it needed.

That lucas gear oil should have the friction additive already in it. But even if the friction additive isnt needed, it wont hurt anything to still run it.
