My 99 Silevrado's head lights are always on, if the key's on the lights are on? I have replaced the Ambient light sensor, and the DRL Modual.I checked continuity in the Ambient light S. wire, it was good. If I remove one of the two head lamp fuse's, That lamp goe's out and then the day time running lights come on?
Has any one got any suggestions?

that is a safety feature programed into the DRL the only way to turn them off is to turn the headlight switch all the way to the left and they will turn off but you will have to do this every time you restart the truck only other way would be to put a ground on the DRL relay which I wouldnt suggest because then you probably wouldnt have low beams at all.

I tryed your idea, I'm sorry to say it didn't work. Actually the light switch is always in the off position(all the way to the left)
can you think of anything else that might work? Is it possable to program this out of the on board computer?

Ok, I'm going totry that today. I should do these things in the sunlight, right? I think it's real odd that I can't find a mach. here in Missouri that wants to work on this problem?? I'll keep you informed as to my progress.
Thaks for the help.

Hey Archangle_500 I have an idea? If I push my emergency brake pedal down one click the lights go off,BUT then the door bell chime rings? Would it be easyer to disconect the door bell chime? If so where can I find it? what do you think?

well that might work for temp but i wouldnt disconnect the chime for if it tries to give you other important information but you should be able to disconnect the e brake switch which could or could not display a code on the instrament pannel saying brake or ABS not for shure what the switch is all wired into I would have to look at a diagram but it would be better just to do it the right way so we will see what I can do ok so you already put in a new DRL relay and light sensor right?

Have you checked or replaced the HDLP relay yet also known as head lamp relay located in the fuse box under the hood if not that could be the problem is that the relay is stuck in the open position causing your light to stay on whenever the truck is on.

and one more thing do the lights do it as well without the truck running but the key in the ACC position?

I tryed the e brake switch The light on the dash went out but the lights stayed on? Then I pluged the switch back up, pushed the e brake pedal down one click and the lights were off and the dash light was on.
I'm going to pick up a HDLP tomorrow and see what happens. I'll keep you informed.
Thanks again for your help.

Hi Archangle_500 I tryed the HDRL relay and nothing different happened. After changing the Ambient Light sensor, DLR relay and putting in a new HDLP relay? Is there anything left other than the body control Mod. ? From what I have read about the Body C. Mod. has to be programed? is that right?
I'm beginning to think I should be looking for the chime and disable it, then click the E brake a couple times?
I looked at the photo's of your truck, Very nice. Wouldn't it drive you nuts if there was a light or a little rattle or dinging noise in your truck? Other than changing the head lights once a year it realy not hurt anything other than my pride? LOL

also I have been talking to afew buddies and one has a 99 as well he said the 99 doesnt have a bypass for the lights so you either need to
(A) Replace your BCM with one from a newer truck because they made 99s without a bypass which is what he did.
OR
(B) bypass the ambient light sensor in which case you would always have to turn on your lights manually
OR
(C) you could use the ebrake trick and just disable the chime

The only thig I have done with the switch is to unplug it and test for hot wires with a test light. I have been checking on a BCM, Haven't decided if I want to go to that expence? Bypassing the ambient L sensor sounds good. In the mean time I may just disable the chime?
Do you know how to bypass the AL sensor? Dosen't that envolve an electronic part? Have read about replacing the AL sensor with some type of electronic part.
I don't like doing things half way, But with almost 200000 miles on the truck? Maybe disabeling the chime is what I should do?
What is your opinion?

really its your call chime would prob be simpler but here is th info my buddy gave me on bypassing the ambient light sensor if you decide to go that route.

FOR '99-'02 TRUCKS ONLY w/o AUTO CLIMATE CONTROLS

Basically you will need a pair of wire cutters and a 1.5K ohm 1/2 watt resistor that you can get at Radio Shack. Electrical tape and possibly some wire nuts will work to wire in the resistor. You can solder the wires if you wish.

You may want to remove the neg. battery cable to assure you don't do any unwanted damage to the electrical system. This is not necessary, but a good precaution to take.

First locate the Body Control Module (BCM) which is under the dash, below the steering column. Laying on the floor, this should be visible without removing any dash panels. You should find a purple connector (C3). Unplug it.

Locate the white and gray wires (A4 and A6). I don't remember if white is A4 and gray is A6 or vice versa. It doesn't matter anyway.

Clip these two wires that are coming off this plug (C3). Leave a few inches to work with. Tape up or place wire nuts over the other end of these wires that go up under the dash(they go to the light sensor). You have now removed the light sensor from the electrical system and is now just a dash ornament.

Connect the gray wire from the plug (C3) to one end of the resistor and the white wire to the other end. Make sure you tape up all wires to prevent a short. You should now have a gray wire coming from C3, going to one lead of the resistor and the white wire from C3 to the other resistor lead. Plug in C3 to the BCM and replace the neg. battery cable if you removed it. Start the truck and make sure the lights are off. Throw a dark towel or something over the light sensor on the dash and verify the lights stay off. Try your light switch that has probably never been used and that's it!

by the way you will proably need a manual for the wiring scamatic I have look everywhere online and cant find one sorry

This information it great. I'll pick up that resistor tomorrow and get that instaled. If the wire colors are not the same as you described it's not a big deal. It wasn't all that hard to get into the dash to reach the Amb. sensor. I'll send you a message after I get it done.

I finished putting in the Resistor It's got to be the BCM. nothing changed. I'm going to keep my eye out for a BCM on a wrecked truck with the same options my truck has (fog lts., elect. windows, cruse control) In the mean time I'm going to look for the chime and disconect it. I'm getting tired of messing with it. The weather is nice and I want to play golf instead of work or worrie about the truck. I have spent enough of my retirement money trying to resolve this thing.
I can't thank you enough archangle-500 for your help. If I ever get this issue resolved, I'll post a message on this site addressed to you. Hope you enjoy your summer.

Has anyone figured out what is causing this problem? I have a 99 silverado with the same problem as described. my headlights are on whenever my truck is running. Unless I start it up with the emergency brake on. I bought a new ambient light sensor but if I can dodge all the hassle of putting that in I am willing! any suggestions?

Not a problem glad to help out right on man sorry we didn't resolve the problem but keep in mind it still could just be the headlight switch itself I know how frustrating this stuff can be sometimes sorry I couldn't be more help keep me posted on the outcome.
