Blend door squeak

Hey guys I was wondering if this is something that I need to worry about. When I turn on my A/C and the blend doors open there is a squeak at the very end of them opening all the way on one of the doors. Everything work fine with it. It's on a 2011 Silverado. Here is the video

I could not hear anything. If it is still working fine, I would let it ride unless the noise bothers you. Not sure if the actuators make noise so it could be from the shaft the doors are on. Access to lube them might be a tricky deal.

I sprayed the actuator mechanism but didn't change anything. It seems like it might be rubbing on the hvac wall. If I run the ac for awhile And the hvac box gets cold it won't do it until it warms back up. Should I spray some graphite grease on the door itself so it won't collect dust.

I dont even know how to access the actual doors. Another member had a broken one and I suggested using one of those low cost endoscopes you can pick up on Amazon to see what was going on. So far have not heard back about that one. Could lead to info on how to access the doors if he opens it up.

The left vent on the radio bezel leads to the mode door. If you take off the radio bezel and follow it down about 4-5 inches is where the mode door opens and closes. So I thought about taking graphite spray with the spray straw and spraying it down there.

There are several doors associated with the mode door actuator. It has to be able to close off and direct air flow from the front vents, to the floor, and or the defrost. I thought you said it was a blend door which is not where you described. One (for the drivers side) is located above the passenger footwell. The passenger side is located up in the middle of the dash to the left of the airbag and just below it.

I wasn't sure at first what it was. I got up under the dash today and started looking around and seen what actuator was moving when it did it and where the sound was coming from. Then I did some research on what door that was.

Did you try greasing that cam? There are a number of moving parts and gears on it that perhaps it could be. Those are all external and accessible.

I am meaning the large plastic cam on it pictured here:

If it sounds more internal, then yeah...that will be very difficult to get to.

I ran out to the truck and got a video of the actuator moving and you can here the sound a lot better in this video. All I did was hit the power button from on to off and the back on for the hvac system it was set to face. Listening to it now it kind of sounds external. What do you think?

I heard that squeak. What did you spray it with? I would use some white lithium type grease. You want something that stays on there. Does not have to be a bunch of it...just on the contact and moving parts. Could even be the cam rubbing up against the housing somewhere.

I just sprayed some silicone spray on it because that's all I had. It sounds to loud to be inside I think.

It was pretty distinct. You may need to pull the actuator and cam off to get at it better with grease. Be sure to look at and take pictures of how it is on there to make sure you put it back together the same.

I got everything sprayed down today and it didn't help. Sounds like to me it is coming from inside the actuator. I might try a new actuator.

Hmmm. That would be better than trying to dismantle the dash at least. Try to find an OEM one. Aftermarket ones can be flaky.

Sounds like a very good price. Hope that fixes up the squeak. That is the sort of thing that drives me nuts.

If it's something inside the dash I am not going to mess with it. Don't feel like drawing coolant and evacuating ac. I found a OEM one on rock auto with the new cam for $45.
Why would you think you need to evacuate coolant or freon to remove an actuator and lube it..???
The actuators are just installed in an air plenum.!
I was saying if it is something inside the dash like a mode door where you need to pull the whole hvac box to get to it.

I got the new actuator in and it is a lot quieter. It squeaks a little bit when going to face vent and defrost. I am going to stay it's normal. I might should have sprayed everything down while it was apart but I didn't because I was in a hurry because it was about to rain. Sometime I might take it back apart and spray everything down.
