Ticking noise, tried wi 2010 Silverado 1500 4.8 l engine Km 83500
Ticking noise, tried with Rislone engine oil treatment. Quite at start until engine temp to operating temp. Then starts ticking. th Rislone engine oil treatment. Quite at start until engine temp to operating temp. Then starts ticking. Removed both drive belts&?started still noisy. Then drained 5W30, filled up with 10W30, replaced EO filter. No noise until engine temp reaches OP TEMP then starts ticking. Then drained some oil, poured 500 ml ACDelco engine oil supplement. Still making noise after 20 minutes. How long should I wait for EO supplement to work / quite the lifter noise. Please advise me what's going on. Thanks

Whew that was a tough read,

Anyway, you are sure the ticking is coming from within the engine? Have you ruled out and exhaust manifold leak?
Thanks. My typing got mixed up. How do I check exhaust manifold leak. Can I spray soapy water. Manifold nuts are there. Noise coming from right side / passenger side.
Thanks
Look for dark scorch marks around the manifolds and/or broken bolts, especially the rear manifold bolt on each side of the motor. Pretty common on those motors.
Ohhhhh, that first post.... my eyes are still crossed, LOL.

Here's an interesting method (video below) that some guys are using. I've seen folks spray (like in this video), or listen with some sort of flexible tube held at ear, then moved slowly around the edges where the manifold attaches to engine.

If it's still ticking after warm up chances are your lifters are loose. You might have to pull the heads but the lifter trays can become slightly oblong causing the lifter to turn slightly. Most people find out the cause after they damage the engine. The lifter trays are only plastic and are known for causing lifter ticking.
Thanks, I am not driving the truck. But I keep starting the truck to run about 20 minutes. It's cold / snow now here, I am planning To pull the head to check & fix. Ticking / tapping starts at operating temp. Now I have 10w30. I am thinking that 10W40 might quite the noise at operating temp.
I'd be careful of how thick an oil you use. Especially is cold climate where you and I live. It could also be piston slap. In that case there is nothing you can do. These engines are also know for that
I poured in 500 ml of ACDelco engine oil supplement, after this no noise at start up until operating temp, 20 / 30 minutes. I don't know if this due to 10W30 or engine oil supplement. I hear that 4.8 engine needs 1 more ACDelco EOS. Do I need to.
10W30 to 10W40 or 5W40. Would 40 better / thicker at operating
temp ? I Used 5W30 before this issue. Any thoughts on this.
At operating temperature, there is no difference between 5w30 and 10w30. They are both 30w oil. 5w will flow a little better in very cold temps.
Adding oil treatments is usually a complete waste of money.
How about bumping up to 10W40. Would 40 viscosity at operating temp would make the difference?
It might, but not too likely. I wouldn't run 10w40 in cold weather. You might try 5w40.

I opened both valve covers, no broken pieces. Turned crankshaft all rockers are pushing the valves. Then started with valve covers off, all rockers are moving pushing the valves. Found smoke due to oil came on manifold.
If lifter stuck / collapsed, rockers won't move?
Now weather is warm. Noise from start up.
I presume 4.8 doesn't have vlom solenoid.
I am planning to change oil to 10W40 to check if noise disappear.
What do I check now. Can I rule out lifters?
Is it possible to remove intake manifold with fuel rail, injectors after disconnecting fuel line.
Today I installed valve covers, started, checked, chuchuchu noise from passenger side of engine, sounds like some plastic noise, air escaping, I checked passenger side Spark plugs for tightness, ok. Checked passenger side manifold bolts. Some smoke, oil on manifold from starting with valve covers off, I am going to remove right front wheel, cover to see manifold from the side. I tried shop vacuum / blower at tail pipe, but hose got pushed off.
Please advise me on this. Thanks.
1. Where to hook test oil pressure gage. Oil pressure Sender unit hard to access.
2. Can I use penetrating fluid to soak to free up lifter at push rod holes.
I want to try this before I remove cylinder heads.
I haven't been using my truck. Now I want to get this fixed.
Please advise.
Thanks
Removed valve covers. Started, oil comes up to rockers. Still noisy. Used stethoscope, more noise on driver side 2nd rocker arm bolt. Checked other rockers on bolts while engine running. I tried with # 1 plug wire & injector connected removed, started same noise. Removed this rocker arm. dealer is getting me a rocker arm soon. I'll install & check.
Is there a TDC timing mark on crank pulley/ balancer & pointer on timing cover ?
2010 Silverado 1500, 4.8 engine.
Any thoughts, help on this please
Thanks
If you have a stuck lifter, maybe try what this guy does...

I installed, torqued new rocker from dealer. Still same noise. Is it lifter ? Oil comes from push rod to rockers. Push rod moves, pushes rocker arms.
If lifter is seized, would the push rod move ? With the stethoscope I isolated the noise at # 1 cylinder # 2 rocker arm bolt. But noise all over. At this rocker arm it's different noise. I am driving the truck. Sometimes sound like drive belt, pulley related. Removed drive belt, started, same noiseI ruled out belt, pulley. I am not seeing any leaks at exhaust manifold. Any help on this please. Thanks
Maybe try spraying some carb cleaner or Seafoam down the push rod to try to clean-out the lifter? Maybe do a Seafoam treatment on the motor to clean-out any sludge?
Thanks. I sprayed penetrating fluid down push rods, left for a day, started, same noise. Removed #1 cylinder injector harness, spark plug wire, started, still same. Service stability trac came on, due to 1 cylinder inop ? Parts stores are opening now after lockdown. I'll get seafoam, carb cleaner to spray, soak.
If manifold / exhaust leak this should stop at operating temp ? This engine ticks at start up, operating temp. Is it rod knock ?
Is it possible to remove intake manifold with fuel injectors, fuel cross over pipe.
