That's a good idea, but it will not work. The yoke would fly right out as it would still be spinning and there is nothing to hold it in place. Have you checked the engine and transmission mounts?

All mounts are solid. Is it possible for it to run without the yolk? Or will I get a sprinkler of ATF? Someone also suggested a exhaust leak? The noise does come from the general area.

I hate finding the source of noises...I haven't thanked you yet ASTE25 or Jordan for really helping me figure this out. I will post again after I do another check.

Yes, please keep me updated. It may help me answer someone elses question quickly next time.

I would look for a cracked flexplate. I have had one do that before, and it sounds exactly like what you are describing. The one I heard was on my brothers 89 3/4 ton ext cab with a 350. The flexplate was broken in a complete circle just outside the crank bolts. There was one v shaped area between two of the bolts that allowed it to still turn the torque converter. You will have to remove the starter and all of the torque converter bolts to be sure this is the problem. After doing that try to move the flex plate of it is loose it is broken. Good luck

That is possible as well. I had one one time that was cracked and it sounded like a rod was knocking. I was relieved to find the cracked flexplate.

The noise is coming from the oil pan area. If I put me ear right up against it the noise seems to be coming from inside. There is now an audible knocking sound. I did not get to thoroughly checked the flex plate. I just looked at it through the inspection hole but it doesnt seem to be cracked.

I might want to add that I found thin slices of metal shavings in my oil. Could this is the first symptoms of a spun bearing? The oil is relatively fresh so I got a pretty nice surprise changing it.

I would suggest at least taking the oil pan off and checking the bearings, since you hear the origional and new noises from within the pan. It's a lot cheaper to replace a crank kit than if it throws a rod and the whole engine needs replaced.

Might want to get a little update to help anyone that has this noise/problem.

The problem ended up just being the starter, thank god! The starter gear would not retract after disengaging and would wobble in and out making that clicking noise. Replaced starter and now everything is good.

This is the exact same problem i am having. subscribed so i can come back to this!

I think I have the exact same issue. Appreciate all the info and I too hope it's just my starter. I will check it out and update with what I find out.
