My "ENGINE OIL LOW" "ADD OIL" light keeps coming on every 4000 miles. My percentage oil life left with indicator is only at 42%. The dealer says this is normal and I need to change the oil. I don't think this is normal as I sure didn't buy a GMC so I would have to add oil every 4000 miles (esp. when the Oil life is at 42% left). Any thoughts on how to escalate would be appreciated.

I have a 2020 Denali GMC- 1500 6.2L V8. It has only 24,000. Never a problem until now. Now every 4000 to 4500 miles, the "ENGINE OIL LOW- ADD OIL" light comes on. There is no oil on the dip stick either time. First time, dealer say I just needed a oil change. I brough in today with only 4000 miles since last change because the "ENGINE OIL LOW-ADD OIL" came on again. They say is was 2 quarts low which is normal for my vehicle. Doesn't sound right to me to have to had 2 quarts every 4000 miles.....

Yes, the Oil percentage Life is at only 42% so why would have to be adding oil every 4000 miles. Having to add oil every 4000 miles what I want to do with new vehicle. This does not sound "normal" to me either.

Using 1 quart of oil in 2,000 miles is 'normal' per GM. Some other makes, it's 1 qt. of oil in 1,000 miles is 'normal'.

Some shops don't remember that the newer engines take 8+ quarts of oil instead of 6. So make sure it's on the full mark immediately after an oil change. It's probably unlikely, but it is possible they aren't putting in enough oil from the get go.
I did not purchase a 2020 Denali to have add oil every 4000 miles - they should have disclosed that as I would not purchased. According to guidelines you can get 7000 miles to 10,000 between oil changes so having to ADD OIL every 4000 miles does not sound "normal" to me

NOT NORMAL!!!
Still under warranty?
Tell them you want an oil consumption test preformed. If they refuse, go to another Dealer. My instincts tell me to go to another Dealer anyway, since they were full of sh*t on your first visit. Doesn't have to be a GMC Dealer. Can be a Chevy dealer. Tell the Dealer you would like to open a "case" and you want the GM rep. contacted, or you can write to [email protected] and ask for help. Be professional in your correspondence.

BTW.....I have a 15 5.3, change my oil every 5K religiously, and hardly ever check it between changes....
thank you
