I am getting a frequent evap system code that indicated I have a leak somewhere. How would I go about finding this leak and what are the most common failures. It's my 06 5.3 daily driver with 176k on it.

A shop can do a smoke test on it. But take a look at your fuel lines, if they are rusty its a good bet they need to be replaced. Mine needed replacement as soon as I bought the truck. It had an Evap code saying it had circuit malfunction which means its leaking somewhere. Theres two lines running from the gas tank area. One is the fuel line, other is the evap line. It was a good bet that my fuel line was very close to rupturing because it was really crispy. As soon as I replaced them the problem was fixed.
