Fully disable stabilitrak and Traction Control?

I just came across this on youtube and this guy (kid) claims that pulling a fuse completely disables both stabilitrac and traction control. It was hard to tell exactly which one it was (I think fuse #9), but I am sure you can cross reference it with a fuse box diagram to find out.

Anyway, the video is long and the kid talks forever. Seems he likes the microphone. But anyway, if you go to the end of the video to about the 4:00 mark, you get to where he shows the fuse.

I am just wondering if anyone knows if this will in fact fully disable TC and ST. I have seen a lot of talk on this forum about disabling it but using the button clearly doesn't do the trick and I haven't ever seen where anyone had a confirmed solution for fully disabling it.

I don't plan on doing it normally, but I know that if you get stuck in a snow bank in winter, the ST and TC can make it nearly impossible to get out and if a guy can just pull the necessary fuse, it would be nice.

Yep, a followup to my own message. I found that the same kid spliced into the wiring for the ST/TC circuit under the fuse block and installed a switch in the cab for it so he can simply flip the switch to open/close the circuit and theoretically disable/reenable the ST/TC with the flip of a switch. His test seems to show that it indeed works.
I am still looking for comments on if it is the real solution for truly disabling the ST and TC completely?

Yeah, but I have to hold it down for what seems like forever, and a little light to light racing is what I'm after, therefore putting it in tow/haul and turning of the traction control quickly is what I'm after.

Yah, what 19trax said. If you watch the second video, it proves the system is not shut down with the buttons.

I got my father's 09 stuck in some snow after avoiding a deer. I feel I could have gotten it out of I could have gotten the wheels to turn for more than a second before it cut engine power and wouldnt let them spin.

When you were stuck have you ever tried rocking a vehicle with ST/TC???? It is impossible.

I tried rocking it, and it worked to a very small extent, but just as I would gain some momentum to get out of the rut the tires made, it would cut power.

At the time I didn't know that 4lo would totally disable it, so that might have helped.

If the fuse pulling really disables it 100%, then one could wire up a switch and have it in the cab easily accessible so if you want it off, just flip the switch and it essentially disconnects the fuse.

Yes, watch the second video that I posted at the beginning of this thread. THat is what the guy in the video did. He tapped into the circuit just below the fuse in the fuse block and ran a switch to the cab. But, I figure for the few very occasional times that I need to have it fully off, I will just get out and pull the fuse if I need to.

I've spent a good amount of time reading these older stabilitrak posts and I still don't know what the deal is with my truck. I have no cel lights or flashing traction control lights under normal driving. I have a steep hill by my house that when its wet out I nearly need 4wd to get up. Truck is sideways, rmps do not lower, and the traction control triangle flashes. Today on a smaller hill as a test I let it eat, 4000rpm, fishtailing, rolling burnout (wet out today). Again, the TC light flashed but it never cut power.

This video on page one shows this truck not going over 1500 rpms and the rear wheels barely spinning. Nothing close to what mine is doing. Am I missing something with what TC and Stabilitrak are or how they are supposed to work?

I'm reading that Lew can't tune these off and even when they are turned off they still come back on, so how is mine sliding all over the place? I'm not totally complaining, I just don't understand why.

thanks for your time.

I don't know but how are your tires breaking loose on wet road? Are you trying to make them spin? THey shouldn't loose any traction unless it is and EXTREMELY steep hill, even if wet.

I don't know man, my truck won't stop spinning the wheels when its wet. The light blinks, but if I don't lift off the throttle, the truck goes sideways mid hill :). No codes, no cel, nothing.

When my buddy describes his sierra it matches that video i.e. cuts power. If there wasn't a blinking TC triangle on my dash I wouldn't even know it had 'traction control'.

I can do long high speed burn out's without any power loss issue when I turn off TC/ST via dash buttons. I believe ST is supposed to turn back on at 35 mph, but I don't feel any difference as the wheels keep spinning till I either let up or it gains traction eventually.

That's fine if tires are the issue, or throttle control but it seems like that's sorta the point of all this to me. My tires have 20k on them and outside of today, I'm not laying into the truck. If its wet I need to be careful or it will spin pulling out in traffic.
I've read many post and like my buddy's sierra, the trucks wont spin no matter what. Seems odd to me, that's the only reason I asked.

Thanks for all of your input.

What tires are they? Some tires are just terrible on anything but dry pavement.

And trucks are light in the back end anyway so naturally they will spin the rear tires easier if conditions are slick.

My 95 was really bad that way. Had to really watch it around turns if it was remotely slick out. The tires I had on there didn't help much either.

I have Hankook tires on the truck now. Pretty close to stock sizing if not exactly. I guess this is the bigger question, why does tire matter? Shouldn't the system be cutting power and braking regardless of tire or situation?

I don't want to beat a dead horse on this or be annoying forum guy. Apologies if this exchange is already there. Not my intention. I was hoping there was a logical explanation, but if there is not I can accept that too.

Thanks again for your time and info.

alot of the NNBS and newer ones have an issue with this.
even when TC and ST are disabled, youll still get the rear end clunking and making a bunch of noises if you're out spinning tires. its annoying.

As far as i know, 4WD was only way it turned all that off completely.

It has the button and when pushed i get the triangle off light. If I hold it i get the message stabilitrak is off. I cant say for sure if the truck acts different or not. Ill try and launch it tonight or in the am on my way to work (on the bike today). For certain though, with the TC turned on my truck is all over the place on the steep, wet hill I mentioned earlier. My assumption is that it's doing nothing and not throwing a code for some reason.

The only reason This came up was my buddy was considering following this video and it dawned on me that my truck doesn't do what his and the guy in the video does. Im not looking to fix or replace anything. Im happy to go 4 auto when its real slick out. I find it very odd though that something like this can be so different across trucks though.
