It wasn't. They were in for internal engine repairs and a transmission repair. The history was required for further repairs to be made and GM denied the warranty and a warranty block on the powertrain was applied. Root cause isn't required for this.
ughhh...so the warranty is as good as the paper its written on. Do you know of any that were tuned and were NOT denied?

Look, it's rather simple: If we see a tune, device, or modification that should void the warranty on a vehicle, we have the ability to do just that. Some dealers do it religiously. Most that I am aware of do not, however that is up to the individual technician with the vehicle and/or their management. However, there are certain repairs that this freedom is taken out of our hands. In those cases, GM gets the information they want, and if they find it's been tuned with any aftermarket tuning, then they will deny/block warranty.

I am not siding either way on the issue. I am still waiting for substantive proof that it is an issue large enough to warrant such heated debate.

So buy a new truck and say I'd like YOU THE DEALER to install an aftermarket air box, exhaust and tune it...will you comply?

I would install it (and have). I could probably talk them out of the air box, though :)
sounds like its the dealer/GM punishing the buyer because he or she didn't have the dealer service dept install the aftermarket performance parts.

I do agree on the airbox but that big monster factory intake tube/resonator has gotta go :)

That has nothing to do with it. I do it because I give the customers what they want. I do educate them as to possible problems down the road. We also sold upfitted trucks with lift kits and tunes to correct for tire size, all warranty on the powertrain went through the upfitter, not GM. This is the way dealers usually get around the warranty voiding problem with modified vehicles they sell. There are numerous upfitters out there that modify trucks and sell them to dealers. They take on any warranty issues themselves, because they know up front that GM will not back their modifications, the problems they cause, and the voiding of powertrain warranties due to aftermarket tunes.

Man that sounds like bait and switch...here we have your new shiny performance truck...doesn't it sound good ;)

uhhh by the way if it breaks don't come back and cry to us

How is that considered bait and switch? They are told up front what items are covered by the upfitter!

This thread has turned into dating a girl. First your excited and enthusiastic, then you get a zillion questions and get pissed off. After that you move to the '"meh...who gives a f#@$" feeling. Next thing you know you eyeing up another girl....errr I mean thread.

Fug warranty. Grabbed a 50000 mile L96 with the 6L90e and the t case out of a 2015 2500hd for $2500 Canadian pesos... same drivetrain as my 17 HD lol. Who cares if they void mine now lol.

Glad this is not the way heavy commercial truck dealerships play. On my current class 8 truck, changed out the goofy factory turbo for a better BW turbo before I put it to work. Dealer made aware and had no problem. Warranty not affected.

Hey look the ONE guy came back again with the ONE instance he has to relate.

Im not loosing sleep ether. Forums area breeding ground for people with gripes, if it was that bad there would be several posts of people btching saying their warranty was voided using diablo.

And round and round we gooooooo
He's not griping. He is a Tech at a dealer and is relating an instance when a Diablo tune could be detected by the dealer's diagnostic tools.

When Diablo said it couldn't.

The design function of any engine or component, when not altered, should be warrantied.

For example, if i installed new heads that increased the engine compression ratio then now im outside the design of the motor. But the engine require air, fuel and exhaust so adjustment is not a design change. Dealerships are counting on the average joe wont argue.

it was a bricked computer im sure it was detectable! And i was implying those who had their warranties voided would be the ones who would be here griping.. which they are not.

Who would have though that the OP, a person who spent one month on the forum, made one of the all time greatest threads!

The point of bringing that up is that even after reverting it back to factory, it was detectable. I suspected it had been flashed with an aftermarket tuner and I was correct, after talking with the customer, it was a Diablo (he got Diablo because of all the hype here on the forum).

And as I said previously, there were others that were also detectable, one of which was...a Diablo. Sure, they try to hide the CVN and part number information, but they fail in other ways ;)

What were the circumstances that gm requested the logs for the claims that were denied? Oil consumption? Blown engine or trans? I don't thing that was discussed.
