How bad are the AFM engines???

I recently bought a 2014 Sierra SLT with 79,000 miles on it. It’s a beautiful truck, well maintained and in excellent condition.
When I was looking for a truck, I found a whole lot of 5.3 & 4.8 Ecotecs with well over 100,000 miles, many with over 150,000 and one with 200,000+ miles. Most seemed decent but I bought the one that I thought was the best for me.
However, upon reading the posts on this forum, it almost sounds like every time I start it up I have to worry about the AFM lifters taking out the cam. I’m thinking I’m on borrowed time waiting for the engine to explode.
It it really that bad, or just the fact that owners with problems are the only ones posting?? Should I just go ahead and spend thousands of dollars to remove the AFM stuff? Should I not take any trips over 50 miles?
Anyone have a solid motor with 100,000++ miles???

2015, 6.2, rolled 78k this past Saturday. I always do extended warranties. Bought truck with 45k on it, torque conv (8-speed) went bad on way home from dealer. Had to have lifters done around 55k.
I run M1 filters and either M1 or Valvoline 0w-20. Not a problem since.
Since I do live but a short distance from work, and speeds are below 50, I put tranny so it doesn't shift higher than 7th so v4 mode never activates. Does it really make a difference? I dunno. Probably not. Warranty is up in Dec so we'll see what happens then.

I'll continue to buy GM "junk" as some of you refer to it. I will not own a Ram, and since the Ford (and Dodge/Ram) dealer is more crooked than a DC politician, GM it will be. Or whomever continues to offer ice's in the future.

RedSled, thank you for the info. Wife has a '14 Sierra that just turned 100K. Earlier today I made an appt with the local dealer to have the 100K service done (in 2 weeks). I asked about this TSB ad no one in the service dept had heard about it. The truck has never given us any issues; it is used more like a car. Located in SW Idaho. Thanks again.

you don't have to stop posting...just keep it to the threads that were active within the past few months if just adding to the conversation. Otherwise it brings the old back up with the fresh.

It would be one thing if you were like offering a long missing solution to a problem.

Anyways, just some advice.

I'm new to this site and not computer efficient. Bought a used 2017 1500 z71 with ~20k miles. Heard about AFM issue, installed Holley device and lifter went to hell a few miles later (50k miles on truck). Want to keep truck forever considering my age so rebuilt top end including cam. Also deleted all AFM crap. Cost bout $5.5k. My advice, personal opinion only from longgg time GM guy - get away from engine. I'm stuck bcz $s invested
