Doing my 2015 2500HD tomorrow. Rainy day, so no better time to just do the job in out of the weather. Getting the factory stuff out along with the break in wear metals and putting fresh fluids in diffs and transfer. Engine already done, will do transmission another day. Schaeffer in the engine, Amsoil in the drive train.

That is how my transfer case magnetic plug looked like at 5000 miles on my 2013 1500. The fluid looked horrible also. Glad I did that one early. That pickup also was almost 2 pints low in the rear diff right from the factory. Both of those issues solidified in my mind to do the fluids early in the game.

Just don't use the lok tite.

OK, so why not lok tite? Will it make the plug impossible to remove later on?

Yeah, I ripped the dealer pretty good about not checking all fluid levels. They feigned ignorance and played the Sergeant Shultz "I know nothing" routine in classic fashion.

Yes, apparently it will be difficult to remove later.

Well, just got done doing front and rear diff and transfer on my 2015 2500HD. Front diff plug was starting to get "hairy" with wear metals and the transfer case plug was "hairy" also. Yet again, I am quite comfortable in changing out factory fluids early in the game. 2500 miles on the pickup. Did the engine oil change at 1200. Got all nine grease points when I did the engine oil. Transmission only thing left. Will get done in a week or two.

My fluid levels were low in my 2013 1500 from the factory, and also my 2015 2500 I did today. Quality control is certainly lacking at GM. Along the same line why we have to pack the unitized hubs better as well, which is yet a project I have to get to soon.

Are you talking about the full floating rear hubs?

Don't blame GM, the dealer PDI should of caught that.

You guys think the dealers are doing anything more than wash the thing before it goes out the door? Every vehicle I have ever taken delivery of has had low fluid levels.
Not all dealers are bad! How low? Just below the plug is acceptable.

No, front hubs. See How to pack your sealed hubs

But two pickups, each purchased from different dealers, and both with low fluid levels. I am not convinced that dealers do anything more than cosmetic appearance preparation for the customer and a full tank of gas.

How low? on the 2013 1500, over 2 pints low on the rear diff. On the 2015 2500, about the same 2 pints low on the rear diff, over a pint low on the front diff.

How much was the 4 wheel drive used in that 70,000 miles?

Completing this tomorrow! Could possibly be the first time in the trucks life and it's an '08 and I'm the second owner.
