Hey guys, with Christmas and snow at my backdoor i decided to pull the trigger and get myself a remote starter. as of right now, ive got a hookup with a guy who does installs for dealers. he uses the Avital brand remote starter and i was wondering what everyone thinks about it.

for parts and install he is charging me 300$ flat. the 2 models he said i can choose from are the 4113 version and the 4103 version.

Let me know what you guys think! or if there are better options im knew to these and have no idea what im looking at haha

This is the one I recently bought. It set me back $165 shipped to my door and I was able to install it myself in <45 minutes in my garage. Very pleased with. As a bonus you retain the functionality of the OEM fobs and you will also get 2 new long range fobs that in my opinion work better than the OEM ones.

Avital is a good company owned by Dei directed electronics inc. They used to be owned by Clifford Electronics. I would suggest getting the 4103 model as it will replace your factory fob lock, unlock and start all in one. The other model is just an add on remote starter only. The price he is charging is very fair as it will require a module to talk to your truck.

Welcher, he told mentioned that the system can be transfered from one vehicle to another, but that doesnt make sense since the site links say its only for the 2008 silverado. any insite into this?

Had an Avital remote start on my 2006 H3. My wife had it installed for a Christmas present by a highly recommended local shop often used by our dealership. Worked great for 2 years, but then started causing some electrical issues with the security system (stock GM system). Finding the gremlins was a real challenge for me, my dealership and for the installers. Nice when it worked, but it rattled my confidence when I couldn't start the truck or even unlock it.

Avital is a great product. One of the company I worked for installed these brands and the Viper brand. I would highly recommend the Avital system.

That's what I went with and I couldn't be happier. Distance isn't great and I went thru 3 brake switches before I could get the system fully working again but that's cause orileys managed to sell me 2 bad ones from 2 different stores

I can't even tell you the problems I had with O'reilly's Brake Switches, a few bad out of the box, others intermittent problems. They kept replacing them under warranty. I finally bought an OEM switch online that didn't even cost anymore and have had zero problems for 3 years now! (I had remote start problems, Brake Light problems, cruise control problems, stabilitrak and traction control issues.) OEM Brake Switch FINALLY fixed it, key being OEM! I would get that Oreilly switch out of there!

are you sure your truck isn't already setup for remote start ? There is a thread on it here where you need to program it and get a fob.

This is the one we sell and install and it is BULLETPROOF in terms of reliability because it triggers off the factory remote - 3X lock and installs in under 20 minutes.

Here's an install I show of the entire process:

- we added an additional piece on this one that gives remote control from your phone as well
