Mileage and Engine Hrs

Good Afternoon to All,
I just bought a new to me 09 Silverado
Supposedly has 39K on the clock and when I scroll through the menu I have 12 running hours on the engine.
Is there a reset function for engine hours?
Has somebody gone into the software reset values?
Those numbers don't make sense
Was i scammed?
I had an 04 GTO so I'm aware there's an extensive amount of software available to rewrite code, but I didn't think you overwrite engine hours or mileage???
Any insight would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Dave

I'm guessing the engine hours info is stored in the ECM. Maybe the ECM was replaced recently?

Happens all the time really. The 06 gmc I picked up for my brother did ghe same thing. Has 202k on it but only has like 2200hours according to the cluster. So unless the truck was driving on a racetrack for all 200k, the hours reset at some point haha. Otherwise the average speed would be 90mph or so.

If someone is determined or has access to the right tools, you'd be amazed how easy it is to fake things like engine hours and mileage.

Seems like that was not due to an obvious effort to mislead you. There is such a difference in mileage and engine running hours that it is obviously not possible to have such low engine hours vs miles driven. It seems to me that the discrepancy is the result of a glitch or an automatic reset resulting from one of the possibilities suggested above.
